sparkles1984, 23 July, 2009 at 18:08 Posted on Planning 0 35

Well I have been thinking about my Bouquet and what I think will go with my dress, spoke to a woman who has suggested a few and wanted to see what you guys think! Be honest ill post my dress and the pics and see which you think would go. My theme is black and ivory and a colour I havent decided yet, possibly red or pink!

I'm not too keen on any of the flowers but it's because I don't really like hand tied designs (if that's what you call them). With your dress I'd go for something really simple and striking instead of fussy/busy.

Another hitcher had black and white as her theme and she showed me lovely flowers so I'll see if I can find the picture.

To be honest I don't think any of the above would look right with your beautiful dress but I did see something a few days ago which I will try and see if I can find again (prob not!!) as a poss option!

Be back as soon as I can remember what I typed in first time round!!

Well this is the thing, she is being kind enough to send me mini samples in the colours to put up against my dress and see what they look like. Im thinking I just want a small crystal one without any other bits on it, what you think? x

I did look into lillies but im not too sure with them, oh god I can see this one being a tough choice im going to have to make.

Thats a nice one Amee, problem is because I have black in my dress its going to be difficult to find something simple thats not going t spoil the dress, if you get me? x

Ok, first one is of a white flower with a black centre, anemones??? I think that's what they're called and they were tied with a black ribbon but I suppose you could change that to your accent colour easily enough

I actually like the roses with the pearly things on - but maybe simplified a little, I wouldn't have that netting at the bottom.

ohh just saw amme's suggestions - i love the one in the main photo!

With your striking dress I would go for a simple, hand tied, tightly packed grand prix roses... I've seen some which can be quite a dark, deep red.

Im so glad you said that, I thought of that. I have a costco card and they do 20 Roses for £30 and thought about hand tying them with ribbon and then poke some crystal stems in between?

    There we are..job done ?

Don't underestimate the skill needed to tightly pack these to look good though... I'm sure a friendly HIB might be able to assist with some advice.

It's ensuring all roses are the correct height to make the correct dome effect and don't shift when they are tied together.... you don't have to have tightly packed ones of course, you could go for a looser version...

The trick is to add each new flower at an angle, so that you spiral the stems around each other. That gives both the dome effect, and stops the heads from snapping off; if you put them all in straight and squeeze the stems together the heads on the outside are put under too much stress and will just break. So, basically the first, central flower is straight up, then add the others at a slight angle, one at a time and turning the bouquet as you add each one. The angle should become more pronounced as the bouquet gets bigger but you should find that happens naturally anyway. Hope that helps a bit!

As to the bouquet itself, I agree that you need something really simple to complement the detail on the dress rather than compete with it.

WES, something simple to complement the dress so it doesnt compete with all the stunning detail on your dress.

    Ahh now I see Purrfect!

Yeah Ooh lala thought it would be a cheaper option as my florist said for her to do all roses would cost about £95 just for all one colour like the pic. Ill have a look on you tube.

Thanks girls, I knew I would get the right advice on here! How about you show me your flowers if you have piccies, I love piccies!!!

I agree with BeccyS, you need something simple to show off your dress and rather than go for something the same colour as your dress I think you should go for red or pink.

These are ideas that I have found for my bouquet...thought I woould share 🙂

You could maybe incorporate your colours into something like these 🙂

I had really simple flowers but the ribbon was 2 tone to match my 2 tone dress.

Hi debs, love the 2nd picm that could be done with the red or the pink so would be nice offset to the dress then.

Purrfect, I gather your lillies were real yes? were they expensive as I havent had a price for them!

I love the black and white flowers but not sure if they would look better if your dress was one colour. The dress is really lovely but i agree with the others maybe have your flowers in your other colour.

I got mine from startstruck designs.

when is your wedding? I would happily lend mine as its a shame looking at it sitting in a box.

Kerri made it for me and it was £250. well worth it to be honest as i had it at a wedding show in feb this year and the amount of people that came to ask about it was unbelieveable. I was using it as a decoration for our dental stand so it wasnt as though it was on a dress stand or something.

    Hi

I think the photos you've shown are all a bit too fussy for your dress. You don't want to distract from the detailing. Anemones are great to have for a b&w theme due to their centres and they look great with pink and black too. Or you can mix the cream and black ones with other coloured flowers.

But these are only a tiny amount of flowers what would work for your theme. Had you thought about what centrepieces you want to have?
