Boyfriend wants guests to pay for band as wedding gift....?

VK, 28 May, 2009 at 22:02 Posted on Planning 0 10

We are having a semi well-known band as our reception band and therefore they cost a wee bit more. My soon to be wants to ask friends and rellies to contribute to the band fund as the wedding gift - if they want to - Is this weird or fine?? Not sure I am cool with this (and not coz I want prezzies but bcoz it seems wrong, a bit....)

    Your boyfriends is mental

!Unless fo course it is Snow Patrol, in which case can we come along too?

In real life I think I would be offended if I got an invite that asked me to pay for someone's entertainment

I would say no. If you want to pay to see a band, you'd do it, but not at someone's wedding. The alternative would be to ask for money as a gift (which I'm not particularly keen on) but that seems more acceptable.

Hmm I wouldn't be comfortable with doing this, a bit like asking people to pay for their dinners.

But maybe you could do the honeymoon gift thing instead and transfer your honeymoon budget to the band fund?

I find this really odd, surely your OH can't ask your guests to pay for the entertainment!!!!

This is hilarious, nearly as bad as my OH being intent on charging our guets bus fare to cover the £80 bus hire fee.

    Just say NOOOOOO!

Yes to guests donating towards a honeymoon, but a definite no to paying for their own entertainment (especially when they won't have a say in it).

    Sorry but WEES
