Bridal make up - eyes

Kat44, 6 June, 2011 at 19:00 Posted on Planning 0 27

What does everyone think to smoky eyes for a bride?

Do you think it's suitable for bridal daytime make-up or would it be too heavy?

Would it depend on the brides colouring (ie. suit dark hair better than blondes?)

My OH has mentioned he'd love me to have smoky make up but I'm pale skin, blonde and blue eyed and just not sure if it might be too much?

opinions welcome Smiley smile

Hey, you dont have to go dark for the smoky look. you want colours that will enhance your eyes, but look suttle too if that makes sense. dramatic eyes is the trend at the moment for brides. you need to experiment or go somehwere like debenhams, and have a makeup lady try some stuff to see what you think.

Just because it's smoky you don't have to use black, try a cocoas and cappucino colours or be brave and go for something that tones with your bridesmaids!

I love lilacs and deep purples on a wedding day!!

I think with your colouring you wouldn't need to use a really dark shade to achieve a smokey look, a mid-grey would look really dramatic and effective and yet still be daytime.

I love smoky eyes for a bride, especially with some lashes too. A chocolate brown on the outer corners and a pale gold on the inside corner of your eyes would look nice. Probably 70% of my brides go for smoky eyes. Or you could try a grey and silver smoky eye.

As Rochelle said alot of brides go for smoky eyes I would say about 80% of my brides at the moment are having them. I had them for my own wedding as well and I'm blonde hair, blue eyes and pale skinned.

I would go for silvers and greys with a grey eyeliner. You don't have to go full on clubbing smoky eyes but a more subtle version. Just build the colour up until you get the look you want.

I think it depends on if heavier makeup suits you. I wear smoky eyes all the time, but that doesnt mean i always wear black. Ive got some lovely browns for my wedding day and will use a lot of brown eyeliner etc. Try it out on you and see.

I think smoky will be gorgeous! As others have said it does not have to be black and dark....can use greys, slates, browns...a make up counter will be able to help as I have no clue how to make the magic happen just that it will look pretty!!xx

Personally, for a white/ivory dress I think heavy make-up is a bit OTT - definately go for the grey/brown/prple options rather than heavy black. I think 'bridal make-up' often looks a bit washed out and the barely-there natural look is a lot of money for something you don't see. So go for it.

But not all of us will be wearing white/ivory - I have no intention of toning anything down in my red outfit, and will be going for the whole 'glam' thing with glittery silver eyeshadow and red lipstick! (I will have to practice to avoid the 'drag queen' look though)

I agree with rochelle - chocolate brown and gold eyes would look gorgeous vas long as you keep the skin, lips and cheeks soft the makeup won't look too much. If you look at the portfolio page on my website or my Facebook page there are plenty of pale brides with smokey looks. Juliet

    Thanks everyone.

I think I will look into a trial of this now then, I guess I must have associated smokiness with blacks and dark before but you've all reassured me I could pull it off.

Will flash a trial once I've had it done, see if it does suit ?

Edit: Trickers your make up does look perfect, smoky but not overpowering, thanks

For pictures you need make up to give your features defination.

Im going for a smokey eye with a hint of lilac/grey eyeshadow.

Your eye make up will last the entire day whereas lips usually need touched up so I'll not look 'bare' in any pictures regardless of what stage of the day they are taken!

Hi MrsRedman, your make-up is gorgeous, just the kind of look I am hoping to achieve. Do you mind me asking what brand/type of eyelashes you are wearing and what brands of make-up? Thank you Smiley smile

I went for smoky eyes too, a toned down version of my going out black/grey look with khaki and goldy brown

Not a great pic but best one to see my eye make up as it was so sunny outside where most pics are it looks a lot more subtle

Naboo, I have always thought I would do my own make up, I am not sure why - I am not very particular about things (hmm...this might be a lie, actually). But anyway, I looked at this picture and thought "YES! That is the sort of make up artist I want! I LOVE it!"....then remembered you said earlier you did it yourself! So, I need you as my make up artist. I would imagine this wouldn't be a problem? Many thanks.

I don't think there'd be a problem with subtle smoky eyes.
