Bridal Underwear

fancyfree, 4 January, 2010 at 18:39 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hello all, hope you're doing well!

I'm getting close to the stage where the big things are coming together and now to move on to the 'smalls'. A few questions and some advice needed.

1. Pants. I've spied some satin-esque 'Mrs' full brief knickers (but much more attractive than they sound). Anyone spotted these anywhere?

2. Tights. Where do you look to buy white tights? I'm wedded to the idea of white tights, but not too thin.

3. Bra. My dress is hugely supportive and corseted and I know I won't need to wear a bra, but the last time I wore an evening dress without one there was a distinct feeling of unease and just plain weirdness. Add to that the fact I'm having a ceilidh and I fully expect to do a lot of dancing and I think I might get one for peace of mind. Any opinions? If I go for one, do I need to get this before my fitting so the bust can be adjusted properly?

Hey FF. Hope this helps some......

    1. Pants. haven't seen these but they sound pretty cool - I'd go with them if you think they are classy and not tacky (if you know what I mean??? Sometimes there is a fine line!!!)

    2. Tights. I was all set to wear hold-ups but as some OMs pointed out on here - your dress is mega hot and with tights on it might be too much. I'll just be going bare legged. Probably put the hold-ups on later ?

    3. Bra. yeah, I'm with you - totally have to wear a bra at all times. I would def get it before your fitting so that your dress is done right around that area.

Read a story somewhere where the Bride and Groom were walking back down the aisle after the ceremony and he trod on her dress. She stepped forward, the dress came down and she exposed her boobs to half the congregation...

So I say wear a bra!

I'm wondering about a full on corset thing as my dress isn't very supportive... But they are soooooooooooooo expensive!

There are some lovely ones out there, its all i seem to come across when looking for a strapless bra, but i dont really want a corset as the top part of my dress is rather like one and i think it would feel too restricting Smiley sad

I have had real trouble considering the underwear issue! I wanted a basque but they always seem too short for me, and I seem to end up with unattractive bulges at the bottom!! I have found one longer length basque here:-

but it is £110 for the set... ! eek! Super pretty though...!

I'm also thinking of wearing a full corset. I had one on in one of the bridal shops I went to, and boy does it pull you in....looked fab and feel even more supported. Will definetely invest in one....

    1. There's a shop near me that do personalised satin knickers (i.e. "Mrs X" written across the back). I'm definitely getting myself a pair!

    2. I buy tights from www.mytights.com or www.tightsplease.com and I guess they might have white tights on there (although tights are more of a winter thing, so maybe get them now before spring stuff comes into the shops?)

    3. That is a good point about underwear before the dress fitting! I will have to remember this ? I've never had a problem going braless with a strapless dress, but it's not the sort of thing you want to feel uncomfortable about on your wedding day.

I was really worried about trying to find some 'on the day undies'... Managed to find some...

But even with my HUGE knockers, my Maggie dress keeps them in place without a single movement as I jumped up & down with all my might ? I didnt believe they wouldnt give me black eyes but I was well impressed Smiley smile

Still unsure of the tights/hold up issue though

Debenhams had a really beautiful strapless ivory bra and shorts set, but it seems to have disappeared off their website! If you can wait then I'd wait till after the sales and try Debenhams -it'll be less mad there then. But I would get your bra before your fitting. There is some nice stuff on figleaves - both pants and basque - if you search under Ivory and Elomi. However, of course then you can't try it on!

I have a strapless bra and knicker set from m&s. Only have 5 weeks to go now and am pondering over the hold up/tight thing. didn't want to wear tights as they can be quite uncomfortable and not exactly sexy fro later on but i've never worn hold ups.

I have really chunky thighs and am worried they would roll down during the day - also thinking about a suspender belt but can't get one to match my underwaer set. As i'm getting married now its gonna be cold so not too worried about to hot!

any larger ladies have advice about hold ups??

The thing I think about hold ups is that if you don't have fantastically slim thighs it looks like you've got a massive bulge coming over the top. I think these ones would be okay though, as they have an elasticated top.
