Bride on a budget

Thecatlady, 29 October, 2018 at 19:17 Posted on Planning 0 1

Hi all, newbie here. My girlfriend and I got engaged two weeks ago (woo!) and I am starting to think about our wedding. We've got a budget of between £5,000 and £10,000. Any tips on doing it on a budget? We're planning on having the wedding in summer/autumn 2020.

Thanks!

    Hey, and congratulations!

Try and book your venue asap. A lot of places will do next year dates at this year's rates if you order before a certain time. We booked ours for Sept 2019 in March this year just before the prices went up.

Try and book all of your big things sooner (caterer, photographer, accommodation, transport). That gives you plenty of time to shop around for a good deal. If you leave it to the last minute, you could be left with the not very good, and the very expensive!

Go to wedding fairs - meet the people, haggle and sniff out deals! I got 10% off our photobooth, and a free £250 drinks package from our bar from booking at wedding fairs!

Start doing things now - it feels like a long time away, but it will go so fast. If you are planning on doing DIY - which I recommend to try and save money on decor - start doing that now too, so you don't have a big rush. It also spreads the cost. If you do plan on doing DIY, check out the DIY Brides group on Facebok - they're a friendly bunch with lots of ideas for inspiration and tips.

Keep an eye on Facebook marketplace - especially around July onwards next year - lots of people will be selling they're bits and pieces - I picked up some bargain price log slices, amongst various other bits.

Most of all, enjoy it - it can be a really fun experience. Do what makes you happy, don't be pushed into things you don't want by people who think they know best, and come on here to vent or ask advice about ANYTHING!

    Hope this helps! X

    Congrats!!

I had a look online and found a lot of places do "last minute deals" for dates they can't get a booking for so you could browse them?

Other options could be a small civil ceremony (close family and friends) with a bigger evening party!
