Bride quiz - get to know each other.

flowersinherhair, 4 June, 2013 at 19:16 Posted on Planning 0 77

So I borrowed this from an old thread on another forum hope that's ok.

Thought it would be nice to get to know each other more, OMs could do this too.

1. How long have you and your h2b been together?
5 years

2. When did you get engaged?
Christmas 2012

3. Are you having a church or civil ceremony?
Civil

4. What type of venue are you having?
Barn

5. What dress have you chosen?
Benjamin Roberts 2153

6. When are you getting married?
21st April 2014

7. What is your colour scheme/theme?
Sky to Powder Blue and Yellow with lace and pearls.

8. What is the most important thing abut the day to you? (apart from marrying the love of your life of course)
Apart from marrying, ensuring our guests have a lovely, relaxed fun day.

9. What has been your best buy/ best cost cutting idea?
Cost cutting: Having the day on a Monday (bank hol at no extra cost). Having only BBQ and pudding courses for the wedding breakfast. Booking our venue on their open day. DIY invitations. Free STDs. Having SIL do flowers. Having other SIL and MIL make the cake. Will ask someone to video the day and OH will edit it.
Buys: Dress saved £1200, favours, place cards, umbrellas, flip flops for dancing, umbrellas, vintage suitcase for £10 for dress up in evening.
10. What wouldn't you compromise on?
TOG the photos are very important to us.

11. How many bridesmaids/ groomsmen etc are you having?
3 bridesmaids, one possibly two ushers. One bestman, two page boys.

12. What are you most looking forward too?
Being pronounced Husband and Wife, seeing his face when he sees me walking up the aisle, having fun with my new husband and friends and family. The food. The Motown. The dress up box. The party. I am hoping to have a few surprises up my sleeve for OH too.

13. Have you had nightmare families or understanding ones?
They have both been great.

14. Where are you going on honeymoon?
Our honeymoon budget should be finalised around the end of the year. If it's a smaller budget we love France or Greece, if we have more of a budget we may go somewhere a little more exotic.

15. What has been your favourite bit of planning so far?
The main part is chatting with OH about ideas, I love him putting his opinions across as he should. Finding my dress was amazing, booking the venue, booking our TOG, DIYing and Hitched!
16. If you could blow your budget what would you blow it on?
Horse and Carriage, it's the only luxury I'd want.
17. What will you enjoy most about being married?
Calling him my husband, he doesn't fit the description of boyfriend anymore, he's more than that. Being even more of a team. Honouring the commitment we have made to each other. Children.
18. Name three things you love about your husband to be.
He is sweetest person.
He makes me laugh so much, he can even raise a smile or laugh out of me at my worst.
He is pretty AND clever.

    1. How long have you and your h2b been together?
We weren't really a couple before we got engaged, actually. We'd been friends for about 3 years.
    2. When did you get engaged?
    April 2013
    3. Are you having a church or civil ceremony?
    Humanist. Technically a civil partnership.
    4. What type of venue are you having?
    A lighthouse!
    5. What dress have you chosen?
Honey by Trashy Diva in antique white: http://www.trashydiva.com/shop/Honey-Dress-p2557.html
    6. When are you getting married?
    December 19 2013
    7. What is your colour scheme/theme?
Navy, ivory and yellow. We're embracing the nautique.
    8. What is the most important thing abut the day to you? (apart from marrying the love of your life of course)
Being able to move forward with our paperwork. Living on the opposite sides of the world is taking a toll on both of us.
    9. What has been your best buy/ best cost cutting idea?
We've opted to get married on a weekday out of season, which cut our costs in half almost immediately. We're not wearing "bridal" dresses, we're doing our own flowers, we've opted out of everything extraneous so we could spend generously on the things that did matter.
    10. What wouldn't you compromise on?
The photography and the food. Both had to be excellent.
    11. How many bridesmaids/ groomsmen etc are you having?
    None.
    12. What are you most looking forward too?
Being able to live in the same country. Just... beyond excited about getting to have a life together.
    13. Have you had nightmare families or understanding ones?
They've mostly been fine. My family threw a minor tantrum, they've gotten over it. My in-laws are the stuff dreams are made of and I love them wholeheartedly.
    14. Where are you going on honeymoon?
Hahahaha. A couple of days in my father-in-law's lakehouse next summer? Hiring the best immigration lawyer we could find ate our honeymoon budget (along with my babymaking fund).
    15. What has been your favourite bit of planning so far?
Honestly? Laughing at things on pinterest. It's gotten to the stage where the word "burlap" sends us into hysterical fits of laughter.
    16. If you could blow your budget what would you blow it on?
Um. This is hard! Nicer reception venues, maybe? They're nice enough, but not terribly special.
    17. What will you enjoy most about being married?
Living together. Getting to sleep in the same bed. Being a proper family. Having babies. Cooking dinner together. Everything. All of it.
    18. Name three things you love about your husband to be.
Wife to be, but we shan't quibble.

She makes me laugh so hard I ache on a regular basis. We have amazing, interesting conversations. And she's the best big spoon in the world.

No particular colour scheme, we're just having a family festival type day with lots of games and lots of music
    8. What is the most important thing abut the day to you? (apart from marrying the love of your life of course)
The ceremony, then that we all have a good time.

    9. What has been your best buy/ best cost cutting idea?
It's not really about cost cutting as such because we're older and budget is less of an issue, but we aren't having a big formal do so are doing lots ourselves becasue we can: I'm making my own dress, growing the flowers, making the invitations/save the dates and the cake, and we aren't having favours/lots of details (except bunting, lots of bunting).

The venue, the date, the rings.

I honestly don't think much will change but it will feel different.
    18. Name three things you love about your husband to be. Sorry can't just do three.
I love that he is so thoughtful of the needs of everyone around him (gets up early on freezing days to defrost my car for example)
I love that he anchors me though a whirlwind of commitments in a mad life I created for myself and my girls before he came.
I love how he loves his children, and is such a great StepDad for mine.
I love having someone to make a coffee for in the mornings and that when I'm half asleep and forget to put the sugar in he still drinks it and doesn't say anything.
I love how he puts his hand in the small of my back when we walk into a room together (cue little shiver and smile to myself :-D)
I love that he teaches me something new every day.
    16. If you could blow your budget what would you blow it on?I don't think I'd do much differently.

edit: no idea why it's so big, I'm not even on a tablet!

    1. How long have you and your h2b been together?

    Just over three years.

    2. When did you get engaged?

The 1st of May 2013 (our three year anniversary).

    3. Are you having a church or civil ceremony?

    Civil.

    4. What type of venue are you having?
An old Inn with a Marquee attached (The Inn at Whitewell)

    5. What dress have you chosen?

    LouLou Bridal LB33eF

    6. When are you getting married?

    14th August 2014

    7. What is your colour scheme/theme?

Sage green and a type of pinky red

    8. What is the most important thing abut the day to you? (apart from marrying the love of your life of course)

That its relaxed and everyone has a good time.

    9. What has been your best buy/ best cost cutting ideas?

I think the Loulou dress is a bargain considering it's new, not in the sale and fitted to my size (under 400). I'm hoping to have a very talented friend do the photography. My lovely step-father in law to be is making the cake (he used to be a baker). As the wedding is on a Thursday we've had some good quotes for music/makeup etc and the venue is 500 cheaper.

    10. What wouldn't you compromise on?

The venue. We absolutely love it.

    11. How many bridesmaids/ groomsmen etc are you having?
5 adult bridesmaids (I debated this but I want them all involved on the day), a flower girl, best man and four ushers

    12. What are you most looking forward too?
Being his 'mrs'. Saying 'I do'. Dancing with friends and family.

    13. Have you had nightmare families or understanding ones?

I'm so lucky in this sense. They are all so lovely and enthusiastic. Off course, we've not long been engaged so there's still time for tears and tantrums!

    14. Where are you going on honeymoon?

    Not decided yet. Considering Croatia.

    15. What has been your favourite bit of planning so far?

Trying on dresses with my mum and finding Hitched! This is such a great forum and everyone is so helpful and supportive.

    16. If you could blow your budget what would you blow it on?

    Probs the honeymoon.

    17. What will you enjoy most about being married?

Being his wife rather than 'fiancé'. I hate the word 'fiancé', I feel so pretentious saying it that I usually chicken out and say 'boyfriend' instead. He doesn't feel like a 'boyfriend' anymore though.

    18. Name three things you love about your husband to be.

He's unbelievably generous and funny. He makes me feel safe and protected. He has a nice bum.

    1. How long have you and your h2b been together? 11 years

    2. When did you get engaged? Christmas Day 2008

    3. Are you having a church or civil ceremony? Civil

    4. What type of venue are you having? Registry office then wine bar / restaurant

    5. What dress have you chosen? Romantica of Devon- Bali

    6. When are you getting married? September 7th 2013

    7. What is your colour scheme/theme? Great British Seaside (we met on a pier and both live near the sea)

    8. What is the most important thing abut the day to you? (apart from marrying the love of your life of course)
Making sure everyone has a cracking time, good food, great music and seeing close friends I've not seen for a while.

    9. What has been your best buy/ best cost cutting ideas?
Having amazing and generous friends and family! Having a friend do my hair, sister do my makeup, sister's friend doing nails, brother's band playing at the reception and various lovely people offering to contribute to wedding things (flowers, hotel, etc) in lieu of a wedding gift.
    10. What wouldn't you compromise on?
The band. Come hell or high water I wanted to have live music at the reception! Initially, we were going to hire my mum's OH's son's (!) band to do it- but they all booked Bestival tickets (*grrrrrr*) for that weekend, so my brother and some of his mates got together and formed a band literally just to play for the wedding. They're actually better than the original band we wanted, and they're free!! ? Just have to pay £110 for the PA / lights, etc.

    11. How many bridesmaids/ groomsmen etc are you having? 2 adult bridesmaids (my sisters) and best man.

    12. What are you most looking forward too? Singing "Rocking in the Free World" with the band, with my new husband (weird) on drums...!

    13. Have you had nightmare families or understanding ones? They've both been great. But then, I knew they would be- my family are so cool. Couple of blips with his side, but only very minor and sorted quickly!

    14. Where are you going on honeymoon? Cayo Levantado in the Dominican Republic. 2 weeks all inclusive. First holiday in living memory. I CAN'T WAIT!

    15. What has been your favourite bit of planning so far? Finding lots of bits to tie in with my quite specific theme and discovering Etsy and Pinterest. Oh, and of course- the seagull sellotape!! (I've bought it- I still have NO IDEA what to do with it!)

    16. If you could blow your budget what would you blow it on? A venue nearer the sea, right on a sandy beach, maybe in Cornwall or somewhere. Plus much more food / booze. And getting OH the most amazing suit; we're on a budget- all the ones he likes are £800+ and he only has about £400 to spend.

    17. What will you enjoy most about being married? I don't really think it'll change anything; we've been together SO long anyway! It might take a while to get used to being a 'wife' (I'm a bit of a feminist and thought I'd never get married!).

    18. Name three things you love about your husband to be.

He's very clever (more so than he lets on sometimes, which is infuriating), quick-witted and just so laid back it's unbelievable.
Also, he respects and likes the fact that I'm a full on tomboy and he doesn't ever pressure me to be more 'girly' or feminine, which is great because we genuinely are like best mates; watch football, play Xbox, drink beer, fart together, etc.
