Brides bouquet cost

Hugo Brambles, 6 November, 2009 at 18:55 Posted on Planning 0 22

I've just had a quote for my bouquet and for seasonal Jan flowers they start at £80 ? Is that normal?! I'd imagined spending half that amount and obviously I'll be shopping around but this is the first florist I've contacted. Button holes start from £7 each and a display for the top table is from £70.

...hummm... I wouldn't go for it on principal. Check a 'normal' one (ie don't tell them it's a wedding - say its an anniversary or something for the same bouquet) and see how much you get quoted?

I think my florist started from £55, £80 does seem dear as a starting price.

    Where about are you?

They normally vary dependent on whether you want a hand-tied or cascade one - with cascade the most expensive!

I've been quoted £50 for a hand tied gerbera. I thought about a "bridesmaid" bouquet as they were quoted a bit cheaper - and "childrens" even cheaper! ?

My buttonholes are £1.5o (gerbera) and ladies corages £5.

I'd certianly shop around for that price!

It will depend on size and content, but it does sound quite expensive. If you've asked for all roses, it sounds about right. £7 as a starting price for a single buttonhole is pretty expensive though! I'd definitely get some more quotes.

I can see where Tango is coming from suggesting it's not a wedding bouquet, but I wouldn't recommend it...a handtied bridal/bridesmaid bouquet is put together quite differently to a gift bouquet. The technique is similar, but a gift bouquet would be huge by comparison, and not so intense. If you have a fixed budget, be honest when you speak to other florists and ask them outright what they can do for your budget.

Bygeorge I agree completely - I was thinking more along the lines of getting a ball park figure of the cost of the flowers as comparison. I can see reading it back it sounded like I was suggesting walking down the isle with a gift bouquet.

I cant remember how much my bouquet is costing, but the bill for all our flowers comes to £191.00 that is my bouquet two flower girl wands a wrist corsage 9 buttonholes including 2 large ones, one 3ft table arrangement, a cake topper and rose buds to dot between the cupcakes.

It also depends on the type of flowers you are wanting and if they are 'in season' x

Totally agree with Bygeorge - also the roses contained in gift bouquets are not of the same quality as those used in wedding bouquets - roses come in different grades according to quality and stem length.

I would go for 3 quotes - prices do vary from shop to shop. Nothing particularly to do with standards of work etc more to do with overheads. For example, you will probably find that high street florists will charge more than out of town florists - they have to because their overheads are higher IFSWIM.

That apart, £7 for buttonholes is a lot. Unless you are having things added such as diamante, pearl pins etc but even so, it's still a bit on the steep side.

Thanks all, been interesting reading your replies. I didn't specify any particular flowers, just said I was probably looking at seasonal ones for Jan to keep the cost down and I'd be open to suggestion they had and they came back with prices starting at £80 and going up from there! I'm in Derbyshire for info.

Time for another quote I think!

My bouquet is costing £65 but that is hand tied and all roses.

Button holes £6 each - roses again

Corsages £8.50 each - roses and secondary flower.

Top table arrangement £45 - roses

Table centre pieces £25 each - roses in big fish bowls with crushed jelly and grass swirled around the bowl and on mirrors.

Cake decoration £30 - roses again on 3 tiers and folliage swirled around the stand.

I realise you didn't as for all that ? but thought it may help as a guide!

    Hi,

I have been quoted button holes from £8 per head for a rose and the bridal bouquet as starting from £80 for roses. I have been doing searches on the net though and found that there are people slightly out of town who do much cheaper prices. I think it sometimes depends where you, as someone else mentioned - it depends on the overheads the florist has.

I'm definitely not going with the quote from the florist where the button holes start from £8 per head, even though they seemed great.

    The search willn continue!

    Good luck. x

Paris have you thought of having silk flowers? These can sometimes be cheaper! x

Silk or Artificial are marginally cheaper than fresh and you can also have any flower in any colour. Most Brides have to take into account the time of year whe choosing flowers which also pushes up the price.

A lot of florists also factor into the price the cost of overheads and can usually only take on one wedding on that date whereas as a silk florist can do the floweers in advance.

Max - is your florist London-based? If so, would you mind letting me know their details please?

My small handtied gerbera bouquet is coming in at £18 (literally just 6 smallish gerbera) with the flowergirl bouquets (3 small gerbera) costing £10 each. Corsages are £4.75 (one rose and gypsephenia - sp?) each and button holes £1.75 (gerbera)

    Hi Bailey Wailey and Sherrie,

    Thanks for your suggestions. X

I looked on your websire Sherrie and I loved the little wands with the three cream roses. I am planning on having wands for our two little bridesmaids but the ones in the florist looked nothing like yours - not nearly as good. I shall have to think on this.

    Paris. X
