Brides church?

fomfilm, 23 August, 2009 at 16:28 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi all.

My fiancée tells me that it is tradition to get married in the 'brides church'? I think the meaning behind that is, the church the bride has most association with? Is this correct, I've never heard of such a tradition?

Many thanks

I've heard this before. When my mum and dad got married almost 30 years ago they booked a church close to where they were living (in my dad's home town) but her dad insisted it was moved to the bride's hometown, and so it was.

I think it's one of those traditions not observed so much nowadays.

I have heard this before although i dont think people stick to it so much now becasue alot of people live together before the wedding so there local church is usually local for them boh not just the bride or just the groom.

    when are you getting married?

We have no date set yet, but we are looking for locations, ready for sometime next year hopefully ?

We would love a forest wedding, but we are both hung up on the idea it is considered a 'civil wedding'?

I have a friend who is a minister who has performed religeous ceremonies outsiwith a church, infact in some cases its easier than having a civil wedding as if you want to get married anywhere different normally health and safety checks have to be made if its going through your local authority, whereas a minister doesnt need this kind of paperwork. You might want to check this out, though saying this it probably really depends on the minister and what he/she says, but it could be worth looking into.

Welcome to Hitched! Just replied on your other thread. Sounds like a good place to start would be to have a chat with your minister.
