Brides on a budget, how much are you paying for pics...

onedaybride, 8 August, 2010 at 20:19 Posted on Planning 0 28

We don't have any budget for a photographer, and it's the only thing I'm thinking over.

Some people have had good experiences with friends and family taking pics, overs have felt they've really missed out on decent shots.

So I'm wondering how much (brides on a strict budget) people are spending, and how many hours their photographer will be with them. And what products they will receive.

I'm thinking we would only want a photographer for 2 hours or so and to have the images on a disc. (don't really need prints0.

Any feedback really appreciated, as I haven't decided what to do yet.

Oh and we do have a university with photography dept. here, in case trying out an amateur might be an idea (I know a I did a short course with them years ago)!

    Hi,

We're paying £625 for our photographer. He's staying about 5 hours and we get 75prints included. He can help with an album if we want but that's extra. and no disc. We could've had a disc but the images wouldn't have been retouched like the other photos would be.

I am using a local photographer who has not taken wedding pictures before and wants to build her portfolio. We have communicated about what we expect and are arranging to meet soon to discuss what kind of photos we would like etc..

I would suggest trying your local uni and look for someone who has graduated. I did find a website that advertised photographers who needed experience but its on my broken laptop and i cant get the link off...

£400 from 1pm until about 6pm, all photos on CD afterwards. Unfortunately he was busy during the evening so we'll get family members to shoot the first dance, cake, etc.

Thanks everyone, there's no way we can afford that kind of money, so I will keep thinking and investigating!

We couldn't either ? but I ended up not wanting to compromise on everything. I don't mind family and friends taking photos in the evening, but I wanted someone else in charge during the day!

    Good luck finding an alternative!

    Hey guys Smiley smile
We are using Tim Lee photography. Can't fault this guy at all.... He's relatively new to weddings but been a photographer for years.
Not expensive either and if you just want the cd's with the photos on he's more than happy for you to have that and print yourself as thats what we ended up doing to keep costs down.
I seem to think his prices start at £299, but he's tailor made us a package to suit our needs.
Website if it helps is timleephotography.co.uk

Keep shopping around plenty of photographers offer deals for last minute, to fill up empty dates and simple just to help people out!

I know we do and have done weddings from just £200.

I really would rather keep it under £500 for photographer but have seen a real difference in what you get for your money.

I concidered my OH's nephew who says he's a photographer but doesnt have anyexperience of people only animals and landscape andim really nervous about that.

I really dont want to leave it up to friends and family having seen the terrible ones they took for my sisters wedding. Her photographer was there for 8 hours and was about £800 i think, she got a disk with edited and unedited pics and can do what she wants with them or order prints form him.

Im in the midlands and would appreciate any hints of good people local to me? Im not bothered about prints or albums, just the disk and prob 6-8hr cover

I don't want to spend money on a photographer, I have been to lots of weddings over the years and have found that the guests capture the mood of the day in photos better than the photographers. With everyone having a digital camera 100s of pictures will be taken so I am doing this:

    1) My uncle has a super duper digital camera and tripod, he has agreed to take some official pictures for us. We will have some posed shots. These are important I think. You could ask someone you know to take some formal ones.

    2) I am asking all guests to bring camera leads to the wedding and they will upload them onto my brother's laptop before they leave. That way I am not having to ask them all to send me a CD.

We will then go through all of the photos and pic our faves. We will get the best ones printed and put into an album.

Hi, i didnt want to spend a lot on a photographer either so we managed to find a friend of a friend who is a keen amateur, he was chuffed to be asked and is so keen to do a good job he has already been to look at the venue! my friend said he would only want paying for the consumables or prints if we wanted them, but i will offer him something for his time as well. ask around as you never know who knows who!

Ours is an ultimate budget wedding and we have been very lucky with a photographer. My best friend used to work with someone who has taken it up as a profession and will be doing our registry office photos for £50. At the evening reception, we are putting disposable cameras around the room to collect at the end of the night.

I'm on the coast in Hampshire too and know someone who was going to do mine for £150 photos on disc, decided not to go with her in the end because we wanted albums but if you'd like her details let me know.

We're paying £720 for our tog and for that we get him 1 hour before the ceremony so will be about 12 o'clock right through to the evening reception. He said he generally stays until 9-10pm. We get all images on disc and an A4 coffee table photobook. He's the cheapest we've found in our area (North Oxfordshire) for a decent photographer. His work is fantastic and he's really nice.
