Bridesmaid dress issues! :(

Snuggle-bum, 27 April, 2011 at 19:34 Posted on Planning 0 32

So girls I need your help!

We went to see the bridesmaid dresses on monday and as much as i love the dresses the colour just isn't right. It is what i ordered but i thought they would look different and they dont, I was in tears in the shop as they just arn't right but as they are what i ordered the shop can not do anything about it.

I want to know what colour you think they are please, okay so the pictures arn't great and the faces on the bridesmaids dont look happy as i was so upset.

Please dont tell me its just a small detail that i wont think about on the day, I know this but in my heart they arn't right.

Sorry to hear that you dont like them, I would consider the colour as a shade of purple? Not sure what colour you wanted them to be? It will be hard to get to like them if you really don't now.

What about when the finishing touches have been added with jewellery and hair/makeup?

    I think they look nice

    ?

    What do the girls think?

They are a very unusual colour (that's not a bad thing!)...I would say a sort of irridescent lilac...I am struggling to name it specifically using proper colour words...if that makes any sense! They look BEAUT though...what did your BMs think?

They are that two-tone purple-green silk material. Depends on the light.

They look lilac to me in some photos and more silvery in others, depending on the light.

They are lovely though. Will they work with your colour scheme if you adapt it at all? Sorry they didn't turn out as you wanted *hugs*

I didn't tell you all the colour delibrately!!

They are meant to be, as Sherrie said platinum silver BUT because they are taffetta material all i see is feckin PURPLE!!! I wasn't told it would have a two tone to them.

The girls like them but they know its not the colour i wanted.

Do you know of any reputable companys that could dye them, or have any of you had any experiance of dying taffetta material??

I really bothered that they will just look purple in the pictures ☹️

They may well look a bit purple in snaps taken on your average digital camera, but the proper TOG will capture the colour much better.

I love the lilac-y tone to them.

In the 3rd picture they look Silver & more of the colour they should be. It could be that the lighting & flash has made them look more of a purple. Have you looked at them outside in daylight?

I had a green bridesmaid dress that was taffetta for my friends wedding, although in some lights it looks a different colour, in the photos it looked green. I'm not sure how the material would 'take' to being dyed to be honest. As it has a two tone effect to the material i think it would be hard to get a main colour from it. Although I am no expert at dying things so dont really have a clue.

Really sorry they aren't what you hoped they would be.

I think they look nice all the same though, can understand why you are disappointed though.

We went into the changing rooms where it was a more normal daylight and this was the picture...

They did look more silver but i'm scared they'll just look purple.....well not scared but you know what i mean.

I haven't actually taken them outside, maybe i should.

I also thought they would be darker..I was going for the colourat the top right hand corner the same as the ruche..

    *sigh*

If they were sold to you as silver-coloured and they're two-tone, might you have a case for saying you were mis-sold the dresses?

For what it's worth they're very pretty, and I would advise checking them again in bright sunlight and seeing what they look like. For example when I first tried my veil on with my dress in winter it looked absolutely fine, when I tried it on again recently in the bright sunshine you could totally tell my veil was a different colour. Lighting makes all the difference!

Is taffeta supposed to be a two-tone material? I didn't know that!

She's already said there's nothing she can do, quite unhelpful actually, though she has my money now!!

Whats bothering me is that I KNOW that when it comes down to it, its a miner detail that no one will give 2 hoots about but they just arn't the colour i wanted. I will take them outside at the weekend and see what they are like then, i just dont want to hate them on the day.

Thanks for your replies ladies xx

Whatever colour they were meant to be I think they are gorgeous, I love the style on them and also love the fact that they look different in different lightings. They look like a dusky mauve to me and then look pewter in another photo. I really do like them and I think shades of green in your flowers etc would look gorgeous against this unusual colour x

They look a different colour in every photo but hard to tell in the light.

In the last pics you put up then they do look a dark silver. For what it's worth I think they look really nice x

Yeah, they seem silver in one, lilac in another and almost olive green in another. They are gorgeous dresses though.

The styles are gorgeous, but as someone else said it is a case of trade descriptions regs - if you were told it is one colour and not mentioned the 2 tone effect could look purple I think you would probably have some rights against the shop. If it does not match the colour description or sample, then the shop is legally liable for sorting the problem out. It was sold to you as X and it turns out to be Y - shops cannot get away with that! I am sorry the shop lady is not being helpful.

My cousin had the same colour!! She hated it, but it does go with green and gold very well so she adapted and everyone commented on how unusual and fab it looked. Mum and I made her table cloths out of cuttings she got from the shop!

Im sorry to hear you are not happy with your dresses, and can see what you mean about them looking lilacy in some lights, for what its worth i do think they are very pretty and like the colour, in a lot of the pics they do look silver, i thik the best bet to get an idea of how they will look on the day and in pics is to get the girls to try them on and take some pics outsdie and inside in natural light as that will be how they are mostly sen on the day, then see how you feel!

They are absolutely beautiful dresses. I would see what accessories you could add to highlight the silver in them ie jewellery, hair accessory, & even silver ribbon wrapped around the stems of their flowers? Would maybe bring the silver colour our more. I think they are lovely & unusual but must admit the pics show up lilac / greeny!

Also your photographer can make sure the picture reflect their true colour if you give them a swatch of your material.

Well I thought i would just update you ?

Thank you all for your help you did confirm what i was thinking about them looking different colours but you also helped.

I've decided to do NOTHING about them, they are beautiful dresses and i'll get over the colour being 2 tone, I took them outside on the front in natural light last week and the neighbour was outside so i asked her what colour she thought they were, she said silver *happy dance*.....when i took them closer to her she said she did see the purple but her initial thought was silver!!

Kids dont lie do they?....My best mate brought her daughter round to try her FG shoes on and she TOLD me they were silver *another happy dance*.

So although they are not the darker silver i wanted they are silver *says through gritted teeth* in natural light. I will be warning my TOG though, Just incase........x
