Bridesmaid Dress- Would this work?

avintagebride, 17 April, 2011 at 11:14 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi all.

I'm struggling with the cost of my original BM dresses. They are Dessy and will be around £175. Pics below but mine would be sage green.

I'm now looking at potential alternatives. But still want Sage green - not a great deal of this colour on the high street!

I've stumbled across this

Does it look cheap? Does it look bridesmaidy enough? I like the floral print, and it fits with my theme nicely. Not so sure about the collar though.

Or has anyone seen any sage green dresses anywhere else?

Feedback/suggestions gratefully recieved!

Thanks

I think they both look great but there is no way I could have justified £175 on a dress for them to wear once . You dont have to be regimented and go with the typical style bridesmaid dress, there are no rules. My maid of honour is having a non bridesmaid dress but we both loved it as it was different and she said she feels great in it, it also matches in well . I feel your pain with sage green, thats my theme and it was a bit of a nightmare matching the greens with the dresses but we got there in the end Smiley smile

Coast have a sagey green dress:

However, I really like the dress you've picked (I looked for printed dresses). It isn't immediately bridesmaidy so I think it will take some accessorising but once the girls have got their shoes, bouquets, hairpieces etc, they'll look perfect.

I LOVE them and much prefer them to the 1st choice. I guess i'm biased as i'm having high street dresses.

But these could be worn again on many an occasion

I like the peter pan collar on the other one too .....very vintagey..... do you want them to compliment your dress or are you not fussed?

First one is Peacocks for £35. 2nd one from ASOS for £75. I wish the skirt on the 2nd one was flared and not pencil, theres something really un-bridesmaidy about a pencil skirt! Grr.

I do want them to compliment my dress, yes.

    Reminder of it

The Dessy dresses are lovely but as you say £175 per dress is a lot and could definitley add up if you are having a few bridesmaids

If you like the dresses, whether they are bridesmaid dresses or not, then I would say go for it.

Once you have added shoes, jewellery, hairpieces etc will dress up nicely

I love the alternative, and I actually prefer it to the first one pictured.

It looks bridesmaidy, and will look even more so when teamed with flowers or corsage or whatever you give to them! Another benfit will be that the BMs will be able to wear them after the big day so the money will not be wasted.

I am going for off the peg BM dresses myself, they are also floral. The BMs love them and have promised to wear them again!

When I say alternative, I meant the first floral dress you flashed.

The second one is nice, but the first one is much more elegant and more bridesmaidy.
