Bridesmaid Dresses from America

EvaGMsG, 9 October, 2011 at 09:12 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi,

I am thinking to buy my bridesmaids dresses from America using House of Brides website as it's a lot cheaper. Has anyone bought from them or any other company in America, I've heard there can be tax issues when coming back to the UK?

Any advice please!

Yes you have to be careful. I just got my wedding shoes through the post (love them!) then got whacked with a bill via FedEx saying I owe 20% tax (or something similar) but what really irked me is that they charged tax on the delivery cost too!!!!!! Grrr. Was thinking about getting veil and tiara from the same site but now reconsidering it...even though it would still work out cheaper than buying in the UK.

Thank you and yes very annoying that you get a nice bill in the post afterwards, why can't they include it with original cost although as you say it could still save you lots of money in the long run...I need to think about this!

I measured the girls myself and am going to add the measurements on the website I think but still can't decide what to do, it's annoying though as cost is double from the UK!

I used netbride to get watters bridesmaid dresses for my sisters wedding, even with import tax (about £90 for 3 dresses ) they worked out cheaper than buying from the uk. I think we saved about a third of the cost. We just measured ourselves and compared them to the chart.

Thanks for comments - looks like you can't avoid the tax costs but at least it's still cheaper!
