Bridesmaid dresses - HELP!

*CrazyCatLady*, 13 May, 2014 at 22:32 Posted on Planning 0 4

Every other aspect of planning this wedding has been relatively easy, because it has really just been about what myself and my OH want. I bought my dress on the first day I started looking, we knew the venue we wanted before we were even engaged etc...

Now that I'm actually looking for other people, it's become a bit of a nightmare.

My budget initially was £100 per BM. I'm having 4 BMs. Here's a little run down....

S - has recently lost about 8 stone and is now a fabulous size 14, but she is still very self conscious about the excess skin she now has on her tummy and on her arms. She is 5 ft 11 and most comfortable in flats

K - approx 5 ft 10 and only ever wears flats, has a real height complex, about a size 14

J - approx 5 ft 4, very petite, probably a size 6 or small size 8

K2 - approx 5 ft 11, has Crohns and so her weight can fluctuate between a size 10/12 and a size 14/16

I've now ordered about 5 dresses online from various different retailers: BHS, New look, Very, ASOS but had to return all of these dresses for one reason or another because they just didn't look right on all of the BMs. I now feel like the only way this will ever work is to go to a proper bridal shop, where the dresses are ordered to measure and can be taken in as required nearer the time. The only problem is that I don't really know many designers and websites never seem to put prices on, so it's really difficult to know if something is totally out of my price range. I know bridal shops = upping my budget from £100 per dress but I really can't afford to spend much more than £150 per dress.

NB: colour scheme is champagne/gold and due to height difference, was hoping maxi dresses so that taller BMs can wear flats and shorter BM can wear heels (as requested by them - I don't mind at all what shoes they wear)

Bit of a rant really but if anyone can help/offer advice I'd be most grateful!

My bridal shop always have dress sales on and have BM dresses from £80 and less for samples too, could maybe try visiting some and seeing if they by any chance find some within your budget? If they find some they love they'd maybe chip in if it's higher than what you can afford?

Could try ebay, I got mine from there and for just over £50 each and they're delighted with them.

Would you not consider having your bridesmaids in different dresses and going for more a mismatch look?

I think that can look really effective and then each bridesmaid can get a dress to flatter their body shape ;-)

    Some examples...

I'd second the suggestion above to go for different dresses for each bridesmaid in the same/similar colours and similar fabrics. That way everyone looks their best, which is what you want after all!

Thanks for the advice. I did think about putting them all in a different dress, but they all seem to want a very similar dress and style from what they have described... they all want maxi, all want straps and all want empire waist. I think the ones from bridal shops will be beautiful, it's just so much more money than I'd hoped to spend. They are paying for their own shoes so I wouldn't ask them for any money towards the dresses.

I've book an appointment at the shop where I got my dress from - hoping I may get a discount for getting so many dresses from there (fingers crossed!)
