Bridesmaid Dresses - really getting me down :-(

24 July, 2013 at 16:26 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hey guys, I am starting to get really stressed about my bridesmaid dresses Smiley sad

I have 4 bridesmaid, all of whom are a completely different height, shape and size. This makes it very hard to buy on the high street because it is hard to find a dress to fit all. I know i could think of having them in different dresses...but, to be honest i would rather not Smiley atonished

I have been trying to find dress makers in South wales...one lady quoted £250 for each dress before buying all the fabric!! What?! Isn;t that a bit over the top?

I really would love to have them made so everyone feels comfortable. My budget is only about £80.00 (at a push £100.00) per dress...

Hmph Smiley sad It's starting to get me down now.

Sorry for the moan, just feeling a bit downhearted!x

If a dressmaker would charge £250 you'd be better off going to your bridal store and get dresses from them!

I've been contemplating different dresses for my BMs (same fabric though) as mine are quite different too.

I'd definitely look for a few different dressmakers though for quotes as surely they can't all be that expensive!

Alterations cost less than a make up service.

Buy your dresses and get them fitted.

Try www.Lightinthebox.com if you don't want to go hight street, so you can get everyone in the same fabric.

I know some of people on here have recommended the BHS Twist and Wrap dress.

    http://www.bhs.co.uk/en/bhuk/category/women-1020590/dresses-1020593#beginIndex=1&refinements=category~[855991|471259]

You can have the top piece pretty much any way you want. Plus they do long or a short version. It means that even if your bridesmaids have them wrapped a different way, it will still work together because it's the same material and colour (sadly there aren't a lot of colours to choose from)

I was Maid of Honour for a friend in April, and she got our dresses from Timeless Elegance in Cardiff, it's in the street arcade near the Hayes, next to Burger King, which has Eccentrix shoe shop at the front (sorry I never remember the names of the street arcades even though I've lived in Cardiff all my life!). She found the style she wanted and had them ordered in in her chosen fabric, I'm not 100% sure of the cost but they were less than £150 each, and if you find the dress you like in store, rather than ordering in, I'm sure it might be less? Give it a try!

This is what I did. I have four adult bridesmaids all wearing different dresses in the same colour. About £60 per dress for dresses, £10 per dress import tax and £10 per dress for adjustments but one of them didn't need it.

I had the same problem with bridesmaids varying dramatically in size.

I ordered from evica.com you can get custom sizes made for under £100, hope this helps x

I have the same issue... 3 brides maids - 3 body shapes

    1 hourglass

    1 pair

    1 apple

and all 3 arent subtle shapes they are very obvious, Ive had the bridesmaid dress style and colour picked for ever so they will just have to fit lol

I ordered my dresses from sexyher.co.uk as my bridesmaids are all different ages and with the youngest being 9 I wanted a junior version of the adult dress. They have all different styles of dresses that you can have custom made in any colour you want so that might be an option. The standard price for dresses is around £60/70 plus £10 if you want it made in a colour that they don't have listed but when I ordered a colour swatch they sent me a £10 off voucher and did so with every subsequent order. They have a shop in Croydon also but I'm guessing that's probably too far a jaunt to make from South Wales.

My BM dresses are just like indiefluff's but a different colour (royal blue). An empire line waist (it sits just under the bust) is very flattering for any shape or size. My dresses were £35 each. I'm adding an ivory sash and flower to them and they look much more expensive!

I have seen almost exact same dresses as my BM dresses in bridal shops for over £100! There is no shame in online shopping and even ebay (just check out their returns policy before you buy)

Hi all. I'm having the same problem and am also based in South Wales. Penny p, where did you get yours from?

im a bit nervous of light in the box as their return policy is a bit iffy.

Welshie 28, have you looked on ladyvlondon website? Not sure if this it the style you're after but they come in a wide range of sizes. I don't like any of the designs at the moment but they release new ones every few weeks.

Im im also waiting to hear back from a local seamstress, so will share her details with you if the price is right. I have a similar budget to you Smiley smile
