Kalin, 16 March, 2011 at 08:06 Posted on Planning 0 1

Hi All

had my Bridesmaid try all their stuff on last night and have decided that the necklaces i got them just dont work lol, we came up with the idea of making a Choker style neckalce out of the off cuttings of the dresses ( when they get alterted .. we have to have them made shorter ) and adding some sort of sparkle etc.. I however have no idea how to do this.. do any the creative Hitched girlies have any ideas Smiley smile xx

The easiest thing to do with the offcuts would be to take a length of it, and hem with iron on hemming tape so no raw edges. Then affix popper/velco to ends so it fastens round the neck. You can get hem tape, poppers etc from any habberdashery shop but I've in the past got that kind of stuff from the Poundshop! Ofcourse you don't need to put anything to affix it if you are planning on tieing round the neck.

As for sparkle or something to add on - I suggest Ebay. They have lots of sparkly embellishents and flowers etc. Some type of sparkly bits come with a button shank at the back so could be easily sewn on to the band. Search diamantee buttons etc.

Hope this helps - give me a shout if you need any more help!

First of all I would decide on the width I wanted the chokers to be. If in doubt leave them wider for the moment, you can always make them smaller later. I would then hem the edges to stop them fraying. Do the dresses have any sparkle on them? If so maybe you could match to them. You could sew on beads or get iron on diamontes. As for fastening them, you could use poppers, hooks and eyes, necklace clasps or tie them in a bow at the back. Bear in mind that each BM will need a different length (and possibly different width) as all their necks will be different. Hope that helps. If you've got a photo of them in their dresses, I may be able to help more with what decorations etc. x
