Its really up to you, I have 2 my Best friend and my Sister in Law to be. Although I would Like to have all my girlsfriends as my bridesmaides, but you have to draw the line somewhere or otherwise it would cost you a fortune!?

Forgot to add that I am also having 4 FLower girls aged 8,7,4 & 3

how many do you have in mind?

    Congrats on your engagement

Family politics are always fun aren't they! Just be careful and don't let them rule your decisions especially with things like bridesmaids as they will continue to butt in throughout your wedding planning.

Personally I'm having 3 bridesmaids and a flower girl. My chief BM is one of my best friends who I've known all my life through my family (our dads were best friends at school), another is my future sister-in-law, and the third is my goddaughter/cousin. The flower girl is also a young cousin who I see a lot and have a close relationship with. I have 2 or 3 other really close girlfriends who I would have loved to have asked, but I thought having upwards of 6 bridesmaids would be a bit much, plus I couldn't really afford to pay for that amount of dresses and accessories, etc!

I think really it's up to you - if you want bridesmaids, have people who are closest to you who you want to be there with you on the day. Don't feel pressured to have someone because your family says.

I have 2 'big' ones and 2 'little' ones.. little ones didn't cost a lot to kit out (around £75 each) but the bigger ones do when you add up dress, shoes, jewellery, hair, flowers etc etc... I would suggest that you look into your budget before committing to how many BMs you are going to have.

That said I originally said no BMs (they aren't compulsory!) to save money but I am no so glad I asked them - we have had some great days sorting out their outfits and they have been brilliant organising my hen etc etc... would ask them again in a second.

Likw Bluewater said; do you have any idea of who you want to ask?

This is the question ..remember it is yours and your H2b's day don't let people to you how to have it or what to have!

I'm having 1 big one and 2 little ones, it's quite a small venue so having anymore would just be too cluttered... my two best friends are being girl ushers instead and will each to a reading too so that they get included too.... have whatever number you want and don't bow to family politics!

    1x big (24), 2x med (18 & 16), 2x small (4 & 6)

They are; Step-Brother A's girlfriend, (I can already predict my Mother asking me why Step-Brother B's girlfriend isn't a bridesmaid too, but they haven't been together long and I hardly know her. I sent her a birthday card and present and have sent the odd letter, txt or FB messages and have never had one reply - so why should she be my BM! Whereas I have known A's girlfriend for four years and I love her to bits) then two girls (Sisters) who I used to babysit and have always been like my little Sisters, then my two little cousins as flowergirls.

Like the others say ... have who YOU want or you will regret it.

I am having 3, all adults, my sister is CBM and then my oldest friend, and another friend who I have know for a good few years.

O, and I also have a FG (my niece) , well, she will be kitted out in a very pretty dress but she will be just 7 months old on the day so her FG duties are to be ooohed and ahhhed over Smiley smile

Ahh - forgot to say (so far) we're only having our family in main roles as we would find it difficult to choose between our friends. Neither of us have "best friends", we just have a friendship group....though if I were t pick a best friend, it would be Brother A's girlfriend.

You don't have to have any - or you can have as many as you like! More you have, the more it will cost.

I'm not having any - too much hassle!

Like everyone else said, don't let your family pressure you into a decision. Have as many bridesmaids as you want, or none at all if that's what you want!

I'm not having any bridesmaids as such, just two flower girls, both aged 7!

It's crazy the pressure you can be put under for things like this isn't it?!

I'm having my 2 sisters and my best friend as BM's, my daughter is a flower girl and my son a page boy, which seems right for me. However I have a couple of other close girlfriends who've asked if they're BM's too, and I feel somewhat pressured by them, I kind of mumbled some kind of vague answer but know I have to be clear to them how I want my day and that for me my sisters and closest friend (who's been there for me through everything) are going to be the only BM's. I was surprised to get some pressure from friends regarding this issue, as I though it'd come from family or in-laws to be honest!

But like everyone says, it's your day you do what you want, and I too shall take on that advice!!! ?

I'm having 1 adult (OH's sister) and 3 flower girls (cousin's daughters), although 1 friend is being a female usher/witness & sorting the hen night.

I didn't want more than 1 adult due to the potential for arguments about dresses etc.

I'm having 3 big and 2 small. The big are my best friend, my bro's gf and BIL2B's gf. The small are my God Parent's 10year old twin girls.

I was having 5 big, 3 small all close friends and friends children as i dont have any sisters or nieces. but then we brought the wedding forward, changed the venues etc making it a much smaller day so now im having 1 big and 1small, if i had kept 5 and 3 it would have meant half the female day guests would have been bridesmaids didnt fancy that idea!

its really important as others have said that you choose who you want and not who everyone else thinks you should have. i also didnt say anything to any of them until i knew for definate what kind of wedding i was having, imagine it would of been a bit of a nightmare if id said to all those people especially the kids to have to turn around again and say actually ive changed my mind!

    good luck!

I have 2 big ones (my uni housemate and my friend i went to school with who's fault it is i'm with my OH) and 1 small (my niece who will be 4). I originally wanted more, my other 2 close school friends but they don't know my OH that well as they live a long way away and my cousins, but the whole if you have one you'll have to have them all... and that is.. 6 more so that went out of the window! I'm having a small wedding abroad so i didn't want to have more attendants than guests! You have to think about costs too. And it's what you want! x

WSS. I personally didn't see the need in having bridesmaids but at the end of the day it has to be your choice, although it is difficult trying to please everyone!

    Congratulations by the way!

I'm having the same problem - I wish I had someone to decide for me! I've so far got my OH's sister (well, she asked herself but hey ho) but 7 equally close friends to choose from - no idea how to do it since they're already assuming they'll be BM's and don't want to upset them.

Hope that you manage to choose ok ?

    xx
