bridesmaids dress - price

sophie`, 27 November, 2008 at 21:39 Posted on Planning 0 8

I really need non-high street dresses as my three bridesmaids are completely different shapes and sizes, so something from the dessy range or something similar. Am I bonkers thinking i can get a dress and accessories for £200 each or do I need to rethink my budget? Don't want to go looking for dresses I can't afford!

Thanks

That was my budget. I think its manageable. I saw dresses in a local shoppy going for approx 165...... just means getting cheap accessories... fortunately I dont need to buy them now as they are getting made but i think 200 per lass is fine.

I think that can be done but you might have to shop around for shoes and jewellery.

We got Alfred Angleo dresses and they were £150 each, I think that was fairly standard although some styles from that range and from Dessy were maybe a little cheaper (shorter styles seemed to be around £120-130).

You could maybe get highstreet shoes and ask them to wear their own jewellery rather than buying to keep the costs down too?

My bridesmaid dresses were £125 each, I think they were Forever Yours.

I was really surprised at the price. I really expected the bridal wear shops to be much more expensive, as such, I ordered my bridesmaid dresses from an online retailer (which cost me £135 each with bolero's) only to find that they didn't quite fit right).

The dress shop where I got my dress came to the rescue and ordered the Forever Yours dresses with 7 weeks to spare! If i'd known I could've got the bridesmaid dresses for £125 each i'd have just ordered them at the same time as I got my dress.

Which reminds me - I must get around to selling the original dresses!

Forgot to mention. The dresses I ordered came with matching drawstring bags for no extra cost.

My bridesmaids both picked up strappy shoes in the sales for £12 each. I bought some hair diamonds for them to wear, but they both decided while on the shoe shopping trip that they liked headbands from Monsoon so bought and wore those (cost £7 each!).

So budget of £200 is more than enough.

Have you thought about hiring your bridesmaid dresses? I hired my chief bridesmaid's dress for half the price that it would have cost me. To buy it it would have cost £160.00 but I hired it for £80.00. I got her shoes in the sale for £25.00 reduced from £45.00.

    £200 is definately do-able.

I got my bridesmaid dresses for £150 each i think. The tiara's i had specially made and they worked out £15 each, the shoes were £12 from New look in the sale and the jewellrey was £8 for the earrings and necklace from warren james. The bridesmaid dresses i had were Hilary Morgan ones.

Thanks guys. Feel much better now. Thnk new look is a definate must for the shoes. Good idea about using own jewlery -2/3 of them are jewlery nuts so will definately have something that goes.

Next complicated step is getting 4 people to agree on a date to go shopping....

We got Alice James bridesmaid dresses. They seem to be reasonably priced - we got full length ones for £120. Website's not great, and it doesn't list all the stockists, but I found 2 places selling them just by walking in.
