bridesmaids dresse dilemma

bremangs, 2 March, 2013 at 08:52 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi ladies,

Having abit of a dilemma with the bridesmaid dresses, I'm going for burgundy coloured dress and have managed to not find any on the high street, A. Because its not the right colour or B. Doesn't fit right. I ordered one from eBay which was the style I wanted but cheap material. I didn't want to buy them off the internet as everyones idea of burgundy differs so much. So I decided that it was probably better to go a bridal shop and because I'm having four bridesmaids it means I'm going to be spending alot more than I initially imagined. Is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks

I had the same problem but with ice pink. Had to go down the bridal shop route. With 5 bridesmaids and a 10% discount the dresses are still £170 each so once you add in the alteration cost we are looking at about £200 per dress I think. They are exactly what we wanted though do it is worth it and the girls will be able to wear them again.

Thanks for the reply. My bridesmaids say they are quite happy with the cheaper ones but I want them to look good and if that means they are in an expensive one then thats fine. Did you ask them to contribute or did you pay them yourself?

I'm paying for everything but shoes. I feel it is my choice to get married and I asked them. They are all saving for either their own weddings, house deposits and one is in the first year of her own business, I thought it was unfair to expect them to contribute when I can afford it within my budget. Each case is different, if we were struggling with the budget I would have had to ask but then I would have let them pick the dress and have more say in the colour. I just gave them a choice of 4 dresses and they all picked the same one, but I am totally ridged on colour, but luckily they all like it.

I had a similar problem and changed colour! ☹️ I always wanted 'midnight blue' which, in my mind, was deeper than royal blue but lighter than navy but anywhere I looked they were either navy or royal blue so I went with royal blue. It was also because it was very hard to find stationery and other accessories in the right colour hence why I changed!

This is just a suggestion but what about having a neutral colour dress which would be easier to find on the high street, and then use your burgundy colour in the accessories such as shoes shrug etc It might not work for your plans but thought I'd suggest it just in case Smiley smile

Thank you all for your comments and your advice, I have seen the dress from bhs,one of my friends is big chested and it didn't flatter her at all. Lovely dress though. I think we will end up buying them from a bridal shop. Found the most amazing dress from posh frocks in Guiseley that suits everyone perfectly, a little out of budget but so worth it.

I ordered one from eBay too, right colour and style but looked cheap, I even saw the exact dress in a bridal shop for £185 and the one from eBay was £40. I actually couldn't believe they had the cheek to charge that much. I asked my mum to make them, she has been making dresses for years but basically said no. Do you mean custom made off the internet?
