Bridesmaids' dresses

noideahowtoplanawedding, 27 February, 2016 at 08:45 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi all

I'm on the hunt for bridesmaids' dresses for my 4 lovely ladies. I don't want to spend a fortune but like the idea of getting them to try on dresses together (rather than maybe shopping online for them -I've heard some horror stories about the quality and fit of some dresses ordered online). I've looked at the usual suspects (Coast, Monsoon, Debenhams, House of Fraser, John Lewis) but can't find anything I love that isn't about £200 per dress. I'm looking for long navy dresses, not strapless but otherwise generally open to ideas.

Anyone have any any suggestions where else to look? All the girls life in or around London so any bridal stores within an hour or so of London or any high street ideas could work

While I don't really want to go online, if anyone has any great ideas for online dress shops with decent quality dresses please let me know.

Thanks ladies x

ASOS, ASOS, ASOS. It's online however free delivery and free returns and frequently have great promo codes with money off. Some gorgeous dresses on there, so even if you had to buy a range of different sizes or hated the dresses just send them back and you'll get your money back within 5-7 days. Shops can take up to 5 days anyways if you took them back to a shop. I got mine from QUIZ, again online but they have shops around the UK. Great quality for great prices.

I got mine from boohoo.com, navy maxi dresses with embellishment, £15 each in the sale with free delivery and returns! And much nicer than some far more expensive ones that I've said!

As said in the post above you can get beautiful dresses at bargain prices from places like boohoo and ASOS, and they often do free delivery and free returns promotions so you have nothing to lose!

I had to send one of mine back and get a bigger size and it was SO easy, just put it back in the packet with the free return sticker on and took it to post office. Money was back in my account in a week.

I was a bridesmaid at the beginning of this year & wore a full length navy dress from BHS, it was really nice quality & under the £100 mark I think. It was sleeveless but not strapless, this is the one:

I second the ASOS recommendation, that's where I got mine from. Or if you really want highstreet I believe bhs have some navy ones. I wanted to buy from a shop for the same reasons as you but as you say they are all about £200 so I went on ASOS and got them for £85 each and they're perfect.

I think the high street and ASOS are great ideas, especially if you can get dresses during sales. I originally wanted to do this with my bridesmaids but I know a few had concerns about the dress being out of stock for certain sizes, or if someone needed to exchange for a different size and then finding out it was already sold out by that time. In the end they decided to go the traditional bridesmaid dress route.

If you are leaning more towards that way I would suggest doing a lot of research online for bridal shops. I think bridal stores have discretion in how much they mark up dresses because I have seen wildly different prices for the exact same dress from different stores. I was able to find several bridal stores that sold the dresses we wanted at much lower prices in different areas of the country with a lower cost of living. These were brick and mortar bridal stores that also happened to have an online component to their shop. My girls were able to go a store near them, try on dresses for style and then order online. Some were already getting measured for other bridesmaid dresses at the time so they just took note of their measurements and used that to order, but tailors and even some bridal stores will take your measurements (maybe for a small fee) even if you don't purchase anything.

When I was a bridesmaid in 2014 we got our dresses from Fonthill Rd by Finsbury Park tube station. Lots and lots of shops to go into. Lots of variety of styles and colours.

I was impressed with the price and quality so went dress shopping with my bridesmaids there a couple of weeks ago and we sorted out their dresses pretty quickly in only the 2nd shop we went to.

They have got long blush Pink strapless dresses with a corset back. They were priced at £115 and we managed to haggle down to £95 each.
