Bridesmaid's hair and make-up

RachTN25, 5 January, 2012 at 11:47 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi Everyone,

Just wondered what everyone is doing for bridesmaids hair and make-up. I have 2 adult bridesmaids and was going to get their hair and make-up done along with mine and my mums. However looking at the prices and realising with the tight budget that it would save me a lot if I didn't. One of them doesn't really wear make-up and only wants to wear her hair down so I don't see the point of paying money for that but on the other hand I don't want to seem mean or that I don't care if they look nice or not. I'm already paying for their dresses and shoes which has managed to come in the same price as my dress (I did a lot of hunting around at sample sales lol) and this is just another expense that I hadn't really accounted for.

Any advice please Smiley smile

Rachel

Have you asked them what you want to do? When I was BM for my brother/SIL, I paid for my hair and did my own make up. She didn't even ask me.

I have asked my girls if they want their make up doing, and SIL wants to do her own. I will be paying for their hair though as they are paying for their dresses

I only have 1 adult bm and if I have the money I would like to pay for her to have her hair and make up done with me. She wouldn't expect it though. Plus I am bm for her next year and I think she will pay for mine Smiley smile

I didn't pay for any of mine to have their hair or make-up done. Maybe I am mean but they're all gorgeous anyway and happy to/capable of doing their own!

One of them doesn't like wearing make-up anyway so why force her was my opinion, and the other three are well-practised. I didn't have any special requests regarding their hair, and didn't mind how they wore it, so didn't see the point in paying for them to have anything done.

Plus prices for h&mu seem to vary hugely across the country and where I live I was struggling to find anyone who could do it for anything approaching a reasonable price.

We went by the rule that if we were choosing something for them we would pay for it but if the choice was theirs, they would pay for it. Therefore we bought dresses, cardigans, bags and flowers.

ETA: I did give them the details of my make-up artist and said that if they wanted to use her they could (and pay for it themselves), but none of them wanted to.

I told my 3 that if they wanted makeup done they could have it but they'd have to pay themselves (they've all declined)

For hair I will pay for this but am currently undecided about whether to get them all done since 2 of them have bob-length hair cut into specific styles so not sure of the benefit in paying someone to do it!

I paid for them to have their hair done as they both felt they have 'difficult' hair and aren't really used to doing much beyond the basics with it themselves. I also bought them a comb to go in it. The both looked beautiful and much more 'dressed up' with their hair done professionally. They both did their own makeup as they were quite happy to and as they don't normally wear much didn't want to feel as 'done-up' as bridal makeup

I feel I should add that my MUA is one of my CBM's sisters... This may have influenced my decision!

    Hey,

we hven't finalised it yet, but I have asked them for contributions to their outfits as they have been made specially with their input to the designs, so they each have a fab outfit for future use. Likewise, I have said that I don't mind what they do with their hair, and am happy to arrange for them to have it done by the same person/salon as me, but they will pay for it on the day, I will pay for a trial. Same with the make up - don't want them o feel frocedinto payin for things, but likewise, as I am not being prescriptive about what they do I can't bring myself to pay so much for it!

Thanks for the replys. Im being really easy going in terms of letting them pick their dresses and I really don't mind how they have their hair and make up as long as they feel comfortable. I just didn't want them to think that I don't care about how they look its just a really expensive extra that I could ideally do without. Think I might offer the hair and ask them to pay for the makeup if they want it but if not then I'm happy for them to do their own.

    Hi,

I have 2 BM's and as i have paid for their dresses and shoes they will be doing their own hair and make up as they know what looks good on them.

They are happy to do this as we are on a budget too.
