Bridesmaids - help needed

Mrs-Fletcher-to-be, 30 May, 2011 at 17:22 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi girls,

Any ideas on how to dress bridesmaids of mixed ages? I am having 3 bridesmaids and one maid of honour. Bridesmaids will be 6, 11 and 15 on the day. Maid of honour will be 32(!).

Any ideas or recommendations?

Thanks

xx

There is nothing to say that they all have to match, just a consistant theme and colour

My young bridmesmaid will be wearing a dress similar to my maid of honor but will have wide straps instead of strapless and possibly a little shrug

I had 6 bridesmaids who were 40, 39, 25, 10, 7 and 4! The littlest two wore flowergirl ivory dresses, the three adults wore an Alfred Angelo dress (7027 was the style, but without the beading) and the 10-year-old wore a junior version of the AA dress, which is something that AA do for most of their dress styles.

Here is a quick flash of how they looked ?

My bridesmaids are 14, 16, 20 and 23 and I have got them all in the same dress:

They are tea-length on the little ones currently and just over knee length on the older ones, which is just perfect, and the straps make them suitable for the smaller ones whereas the shape flatters the older ones. (The younger ones are needing a bit of alterations around the bust to take the dresses in a bit.)

I would put the 6-year-old in an ivory 'flowergirl' dress myself, and then perhaps use a bridesmaid dress for the MoH with either a junior/teen version for the 11 and 15yos or, if they are bigger, just get them all the same dress. I know that when I was 11 I fitted adult clothes fine, but my 17-year-old cousin still looks like a much younger girl and could wear junior bridesmaid-sized clothing. So a lot depends on the girls themselves and how old they are for their ages. It might also be nice for your MoH to have a 'different' dress... or it might be nice for the 15yo to not have to wear a 'child' dress... I think you'll have to think about the girls themselves rather than just their ages because girls vary so much at that time!

Thank you for your messages girls. The Alfred Angelo dresses look great. I just need to find a stockist near to me or my mum and take a look. Are they very expensive?

Mrs J - your bridesmaids dress is lovely. Where is it from?

    Ta! ?

I took them both to get their alterations done today and although the dress is still too big on S (aged 16), it now fits M (14) just fine, meaning she must have put on weight. She was not happy! Of course, S, her mum and I all thought it was hilarious. I'm not complaining, it's cheaper for me as all she needed doing was the straps adjusting!
