Bridezilla SIL2b strikes again!

Viva Suzi, 14 April, 2009 at 10:51 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 44

I'm sure some of you remember by SIL2b getting annoyed that no-one wanted to fly to Australia for her wedding (She hasn't even been to Oz before). Well her latest mad ideas seem to concern what the guests are going to wear.....

She wants to suggest what everyone should wear! - That is rude and ever so slightly mad, isn't it? We aren't just talking saying formal wear only or even having a colour theme- no we are talking about actual outfits! Over the weekend she helpfully said I should opt for a pencil dress in a dark colour to hide "my bad points" and would email me a few potential purchases.

Grr, about 18 months to go until the big day......

She really does sound like a control freak to me! Ignore, ignore and ignore some more I reckon that or find some truly awful outfits and go scare her! ?

Has the venue been decided upon now?

Jaysus! I thought you were going to say she was opting for, say, a black and white theme or something. Slightly OTT but nowhere near as mad as telling you exactly what outfit you should wear! Mail her a load of wedding dress suggestions that will hide her bad points (do they do ones that disguise bridezillaness?) and tell her that when she chooses one of your suggestions you might consider one of hers.

And you've got another 18 months of her so-called "planning"?! Good luck with that then! ?

Oh god. What a looper. I'm liking the idea of making suggestions in return for her to hide her bad points - maybe a bucket on her head, a muzzle or a stunt double?

I'm so tempted to wear something totally stupid.....mmm, maybe a wedding dress would work well?

Re the venue - she is currently trying to get a one-off licence to get married at a friend's house - that way her wedding venue will be unique....not sure how successful she will be as I'm sure it can't be that straightforward.

Waaah, what an utter fruit loop! ? I thought my Bridezilla BiL was bad insisting on a colour scheme!

Where is the wedding now? Has it been downgraded to Outer Mongolia?

Good grief. I pity you, I really do. And you've got 18 more months of this yet.

Feel free to vent on here at any point - I'm sure you'll need it.

St Paul's Cathedral is a no go now then?

Is it just you, or has she thought about it for everyone? I have to say, figuring out what clothes might suite people is going to a LOT of effort. Does she work or is planning her wedding a full time job? This is a new level of control freakery.

Oh no she is helpfully suggesting it for everyone (the men are easy as they must all wear morning suits....)

She was thinking of putting a list of suitable outfits in each invitation. She has a full-time job in a sandwich bar, so god knows how she will find the time but she does see herself as style icon and is thinking next year she will go into fashion journalism at Vogue.......she does live in cloud cuckoo land!

Can you suggest she uses your baby as an accessory?

? at suitable outfits in with invitations. I think you should secretly contact everyone and say what she would love more than anything is a muppets theme, and allocate them all a muppet to come as.

    Oh my God ?

People have such odd ideas don't they? When I first came on Hitched I didn't know anyone who was getting married, and thought some of the posts on WP were a bit of a laugh. Since then I've seen people actually planning their weddings and oh my God...

I'm SO loving these threads and VS's updates.

Given that the wedding is ages away, this one is going to be the the gift that keeps on giving, isn't it? Fabulous.

    Chicken's idea is stupendously good.

I'd love to say tell her to get stuffed and you'll wear what you want but considering the wedding is so far away you might just want to smile and (grit your teeth) nod for the moment. Think up a lot of changing the subject topics for when she starts whittering on about weddings.

I've only just found an outfit for a wedding this saturday, if she makes suggestions you can ignore them bigstyle and she'll never know until the day (if you're a last minute shopper like me ahem even though you bought the outfit 6 months ago)

I have to say that her antics make for hilarious reading but I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for you to actually have to deal with her shite.

The next time she suggests outfits for you/the rest of the cast guests look at her with wide eyed innocence and say "Thanks so much, I love your suggestions but surely you realise that as the wedding is still 18 months away anything you suggest now will be totally passe and out of fashion by then". Maybe that will keep her quiet for a year or so, I would assume that the last thing she wants at her wedding is a load of people in the season before last's fashions!

I love the idea of contacting all the other guests and secretly suggesting a "costume theme". What about pirates? Or pimps and hookers??

What next - a diet and exercise sheet so you can deal with your "bad bits" in advance - after all you've got 18 months to get them sorted...

Oh I love it! She's surely going to go down in Bridezilla history? ?

I think you should send her a link to a really lovely, very bride like dress you fancy ?

As an aside, was it you who's friend purchased the most amazing dress off Net-a-Porter for you to wear as bridesmaid? I was thinking about it the other day (no idea why!)

I'm loving the Chicken's idea. How very rude she is. I can't think of anything worse than choosing outfits for everyone going to a wedding, besides, how would she know how much people have to spend on an outfit?

If I were in your shoes I would buy something completely opposite to what she has picked out.

Was just about to suggest this ? Or, if you had a wedding dress, tell her that you'd had so many compliments when you wore it (to your wedding) you'd been thinking that a few minor alterations would have it revamped enough that you could wear it to her 'do'. Say you felt so special in it and can't wait to pop it on again for her 'party'.

Be sure to start referring to the wedding a s a 'do' or 'party'. She'll soon back off.

Definitely. Then I'd add something about how you don't believe in buying a new outfit "just" for a wedding. And add that you've found your H a great morning suit second hand that'll be fine when you've let the trousers down and coloured in the faded seams with a felt tip.

She sounds bonkers, sorry. ? I would bombard her with hideous bridal dress ideas (even if she's already picked hers) with helpful suggestions such as 'Thought you might like this red dress - it would match your eyes.' Oh, and send her one of these, too https://www.cafepress.com/bridezilla.12632874

My suggestion is to tell her you've planned a surprise in what you're wearing - say a few of you have agreed to take part, and it will be so funny, cos weddings are just *so* lighthearted and fun. then refuse to tell her anything. she'll do her nut.

Tell her that you're going to help organise the outfits for guest and you really think it is important to go for the full on Australian cliche theme for the whole wedding party. Cork hats, kangaroo pouches on the front of dresses, koala ears, surfboards and all the men in crocodile dundee stylee. You think she should walk down the aisle to the Home and Away theme tune 'You know we belong together' and the only drink available is XXXX.

Her hen night is going to be a tackier version of the bushtucker trials.

Also like the 'I'm going to turn up in a slightly altered version of my wedding dress' idea too.

Maybe a letter to Alf Stewart's agent could book him to give her away or be the MC.
