Bright House??

mummy2hannah, 10 August, 2010 at 22:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

Hey,

Both myself and OH have bad credit, both on minumum wage jobs and our money pretty much only gets us week-to-week!

So I've seen a TV on the Bright House website, works out about £18 a week for 3 years! Which I know works out very expensive compared to just buying one from Currys! But it pretty much is our only option!

However, I've googled Bright House and seen some horrifying reviews!! I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of them, good or bad?!

Could you not ask your mum/member of family to get one on credit from currys? they do intrest free, then just set up standing order from your account to family member within plenty of time so they know you are good for it?

I have shocking credit - {ex + buying house = bad idea} but i got an account with very.co.uk - try it? xxx

If it is for a tele have you looked into renting one from Martin Dawes? My h parents do it and have for years. Also there is a I think electronic for white goods which is rental to.

I found this which might help?

Martin Dawes http://www.martindawes.com/home.php (just noticed they rent white goods as well as tv systems etc)

Bright House were all over the news not that long ago... I wouldn't go near them if I were you... plus they are a rip off.

You may be slightly better off interest wise with a catalogue account but if your credit is bad this also may not work.

    Renting?

There is a new Capital One credit card designed for those who cannot get credit - 0% for 3 months but then shoots up to stupid % - worth it if you can repay in 3 months. Alternatively, apply anyway, spend a little and repay straightaway to build up your credit score. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/bad-credit-credit-cards/

Alternatively, save the £18 per month and buy it outright avoiding any interest payments at all...

I would stay away from them to be honest, £18 a week is a huge amount if you are only just managing.

Do you really need a new TV, if you do have you tried freecycle? There are always loads of TVs that come up, yeah they arent large LCD onces, but are working and all sorts of sizes, plus its totally free!! Just an idea, but I dont want to think of you giving your hard earned money to those money vultures that take advantage of people who have no other options xxx

Dammit I was clinging on to the hope that someone would reply saying something along the lines of 'yes, I've had products from them and they're fantastic'

I know in my heart of hearts you're all right and they should be avoided!!!

I could ask my dad as he is very well off, however I asked him for money for our bed and he wouldn't let me repay him. When I told him we were buying a fridge/freezer he stuck £100 in my account!! and again wouldn't let me repay!!

So I don't want to borrow money off him for the TV as I know he won't let me repay!!

OH's family is quite opposite - his parents struggle along and their sofa and TV are from BrightHouse!!!

Mrs C I'm very interested in the credit card you mentioned!! Like you say try and repay everything in 3 months and then it improves our credit score for the long run!!

And Vickstix I'll have a look on the local groups on FB, I havn't tried that before!!

Thank you very much for all your replies Smiley smile

    xx

What about using pay as you view? my gran uses them and shes never had any problems. You have to pay a £1 into your tv everytime your hours are running out (you select how many hours you get for your pound) then every month they come empty the box and what ever is left over from your payments is yours.

I have no idea about Bright House but I assume that a lot of the 'badness' is because they charge an extortionate (sp?) interest rate (30% plus possibly?) £70 a month is a lot of money (although if you are happy to pay this and can afford it then it's your choice obviously).

I just bought a TV on my Tesco credit card (13 months interest free on purchases) and that works out as less than £50 per month for the next 13 months (so I end up paying no interest at all). I realise you say you have bad credit so this may not be possible for you but it may be worth investigating how much you can borrow and at what rate - it may be lower than what Bright House can offer and then you can have a pick of TVs. Or if you can borrow from a relative and pay them back. Take a look at www.moneysavingexpert.co.uk for tips and advice. I also bought my TV via Quidco and ended up with another £10 cash back too so certainly have a look at cash back websites as well as they are always helpful. x
