Bristol people - are we mad re: Banksy exhibition?

Bag of Bones, 12 August, 2009 at 09:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I really want to see the Banksy exhibition but will struggle to get to Bristol until the last day of the show which is Bank Holiday Monday (31st). I've heard it's been crazy busy so wondered are we mad to consider going down on the Sunday night, staying at my brother's then getting there for when it opens? All this bearing in mind we'll have a 7 month old with us?

Just off to do BoBette's breakfast so will check back later.

Get there BEFORE it opens if you can. The queues are never less than 2 hours long from what I've heard from friends who have been, and driving past the queues.

I tried to go the other Tuesday when I had day off work. It opens at 10. I got there for 10.15 and there was already a 2 hr queue. I didn' t have time to wait and then spend time in the exhibition (2hrs I've been recommended to see everything, as there are Banksy pieces dotted around the other non-Banksy exhibits, and it's apparently fun to spot them)

Friends of mine queued from 9am and got in at 10.30. I'm going to try this weekend, and get there for before 9am with a flask of coffee and a bacon sandwich.

If you can seriously only make the last BH Monday, and really want to go, I'd be getting there for 7.30am I think.

I went on a Friday afternoon at about 3pm and I queued for about 15 mins. I was in there for about an hour. I expect it will be very busy on the last day, but as KJB says I dont think you'd queue for more than 2 hours. Its really good though.

    With Flo?

I think you're mad. I've not heard of anyone queueing for less than 2 hours as an absolute minimum, in the rain.

Last week they were stamping people's hands at regular intervals, so there was no possibility of one person holding a place while another grabbed a coffee.

We went with our 1 and 3 year old a few weeks ago and it was well worth it. We got there about 1ish and queued for an hour. When we left the museum the queue must have been 2+ hours long (it was so long, I even took a picture of it as I couldnt believe it!!)

If she is only 7 months I think its manageable- be prepared to jiggle her around in the queue and take plenty of food and drink etc. It was very busy though.

    Hmmmmm differing opinions there.

Maybe I'll try and get to Bristol before then and/or leave Flo with my brothers girlfriend.

    Thanks all.

    Hi Bag of Bones

Just to update you... I went today and queued from 10.30 to 2.30 to get in !

I was chatting to a steward who said the queues are getting worse as the exhibition draws to a close. People are queueing from 8am every morning. He said he won't be at all surprised if there are people camping overnight for the last couple of days.

    (It was brilliant though!)
