British Gas - Homecare 200/300

Peaches, 2 October, 2008 at 14:49 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

Does anyone have either of these maintenance programmes with BG?

We're thinking of taking one out for each of our tenanted properties, so would appreciate any kind of feedback - both good and bad.

Have to leave now, but will be back later.

Thank you everyone

We had it with our old house, I thought it was quite good, it was nice to know that there would be someone there if we had a problem, and we didn't have the hassle of finding a plumber and we wouldn't be left with a massive bill at the end.

We did have to call them out once because the pilot light kept going out on the boiler, I had a phone call on the sunday morning saying that someone would be with us at 11 that day, and they turned up on time and fixed the problem.

    Hiya,

We have BG cover, can't remember which one, but it covers our boiler/central heating, pipes & drains & our kitchen appliances. Think we pay about £40 per month & it has been a god send, we moved to an older house last year & have had them out a number of times to sort out our boiler, they also came to fix the freezer when it broke & came to look at our drains when they got blocked. I dread to think how much it would have cost if I'd have had to get a plumber out to the bolier & the guy who did the drains said it normally costs £100 for the 1st hour without a contract!!

So all in all, I'm very happy with it?

We have the cover too, the one that covers our boiler, central heating, plumbing and drains.

Only had to call them out once so far, and that was because the pump on our heating went. We came home about 5pm on a Saturday to find the electricity had tripped. After some investigation we discovered that whenever we turned on the heating/hot water that caused it to trip out. Phoned BG by about 6pm, they offered to send someone first thing on Monday, I mentioned I had no heating or hot water with a baby in the house and someone was there first thing Sunday.

He couldn't fix it there and then as he needed to order the part. Someone else came back on the Monday with the part and replaced it.

Was very pleased all in all.

We had one with our old house although can't remember which one it was but we had an older boiler and the service they gave us was fab in terms of how long they took to come out and the repairs etc.

BG homecare agreement son tenanted properties can be cheaper than a normal contractor - but they are a pain re access someone has to be home and they don't give a time morning/afternoon/all day are their only options.

I wouldn't use them for gas safety's though

WE have the homecare 400 I think. We have had to call them out three times for our boiler and they have been very good. They have always come out the same day, or first thing the following day, and replaced what was broken. We have worked out that the last two callouts and the part that were needed would have cost us over £300 per time so well over £600. So worth it in our book for about £25 per month.

Brilliant. Thank you all so much for your feedback.

Whichever one of you mentioned tenanted properties hit the nail on the head, as that's what we want it for while we're here in the States so the tenants can just ring up and get it sorted. I'm having to do it all from here and it's becoming a nightmare.

I will check, obviously, but do 'white goods' include washing machines in this instance?

    ? everyone.

ETA - didn't realise I'd mentioned in the OP it was for tenanted properties. I had a quick look on their website and they offer a good discount for landlords. Will sort it all out now. Cheers again.

Peaches give British Gas the tenants names and say that they can talk to them - they only like to talk to the account holder *you*

My mum has one, not sure which, and she has always said how great they are. I, however, have the same type of thing but through Powergen and have been without heating for over a week now?
