Brooch bouquets and getting it to work

lady_lyla, 12 March, 2012 at 11:25 Posted on Planning 0 13

So this weekend I wired some of my brooches as tutorials show you to, but when I pull them together I can't get them to stay slotted without overlapping too much and looking rubbish... how are you supposed to make them smooth over the top like they're supposed to

I've been following this tutorial but mine isn't looking as good as this!!!

I'm thinking of making my own button bouquet and believe you can get those holders from florists or garden centres?? I'm thinking that maybe a dome-shaped one would help your brooches sit better - you can easily (ha!) set them at different angles and height that way...possibly!

Do you have any flashes of your progress so far? I t may give me some idea as to why your not happy so I can give some advise, are you bunching together as in the tutorial or are you thinking of using the oasis?

I think using the silk hydrangeas would help is they provide the shape and a bit of support for your brooches.

The full tutorial is here, they don't use the oasis holder.

I was planning on doing my own brooch bouquet, spent a fortune on all the bits and pieces needed, including the silk Hydrangeas like this tutorial. I've found it quite difficult to do and am now thinking it's too much bother. The brooch bouquets are really havy and I hae doubts about packing it in a suitcase to take to Italy.

So in short I'm going to sell my broockes on ebay and in fact have a few on there already....I'm not likely to get back what I paid out though ☹️

My friend makes brooch bouquets, and doesn't reccomend using the oasis holder thingys.

When she made mine, she used ribbon to secure the "branches", and managed to get the dome shape fine.

She bulked it out with black silk roses

This is lovely! I don't know if I'm being stupid, but how did the ribbon help?

If you're definitely selling though, what's your name on Ebay? Do you have any silver ones you'd be willing to sell to me?!

When she wired the brooches, she left "stalks", long enough to hold. She'd then secure all the stalks with wire, then wrap around with ribbon to cover the wire.

It's basically just done the same as a bouquet of flowers.
