Budget?

claireburniston, 25 May, 2010 at 16:00 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi,

We are trying to figure out a budget for our wedding. The things that me and my fiance need to pay for are:

Photographer

Bridesmaid Dresses (4 x adults, 1 x Teenager)

Flower girl Dresses (2 x 3 year olds)

Page Boy Outfits (1 x 6 year old, 1 x 11 year old)

Grooms Suit Hire

Mens Suit Hire x 4

Wedding Cake

3 x Cars

Flower bouquets and button holes

My parents are very kindly paying for everything else.

What do you think a reasonable budget is for the items we need to buy?

We do want nice outfits for the wedding party, but they dont have to be top end designers or anything like that.

Thank You Ladies

Claire

    ?

Budgets really depend on where you are in the country / time of year / day of the week but I have tried to give you a rough estimate...

As a conservative estimate, I would say around £3,000?

Tog - £1,000 (deoendant on time of year / day / package / how long you want them there)

Outfits - £1,000 (£100 each per adult dress, £60 per child, Moss Bros et al do deals for Suits so maybe £400)

    Cars - £600 (I don't have a car hired so estimating!)

Cake - £250 (again, really depends on what you want, how many tiers, what type etc)

Flowers - £200 (really does depend on what you're having. My small gerbera bouquet is costing £18. A friends rose bouquet is £80! Also, how many button holes?)

Someone else may be along here to help and have a better idea though. I can only go on my costs.

    Hope that helps

It's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question I'm afraid. It will also depend upon where you are in the country.

Photographers can vary hugely and also depend upon what kind of package you are after, so can range from £400 to £2000

Wedding cakes - M&S do their own range which lots of people rave about - I think their basic 3 tier comes to about £75. An average cost I think for a wedding cake in general is probably £350-500.

    Can't help with cars.

My bouquet is costing £60, daughter's is £30.

I think button holes are £3 each and corsages for mum and dad's wife are £8

I can tell you that my daughter's dress is from BHS. She's coming up for 3 so is in a flowergirl outfit. This cost £40 I think. Her cardigan was £20. Her shoes were £34 (but you may not need to pay for shoes if you say at the outset) Sorry can't help with older bridesmaids.

Men's suit hire - we have 1 groom, 1 page boy, 1 best man, 2 ushers and 2 dads - this came to ~~£645 (they are full on morning suits)

    HTH

    Hi Claire,

    I can't help too much as we're very lucky and my parents are paying for the whole wedding however I've put a few prices below;

Bridesmaid Dresses (4 x adults, 1 x Teenager) - my adult bridesmaids dresses were £185 each however I've seen some nice ones on coast/monsoon/debenhams for about £120 upwards

Grooms Suit Hire/Mens Suit Hire x 4 - we got all our suits from Groom and they worked out at £100 each, this is for everything, including shirts, shoes, cufflinks and insurance. They should have been £105 each plus £5 per suit insurance however they gave us a good deal as we were getting 5

3 x Cars - our car is costing us £300 (it should have been £300) they would have done us a discount if we wanted more than 1 car

Flower bouquets and button holes - I'm having vanda orchids in my bouquet which are apparently quite expensive so mine is £110, the bridesmaids are £27.50 each and the button holes are £7 (I think) In total it's about £300

I doubt I've been much help, sorry!! x

    Hi Claire

I will give you a break down of our items.

Photographer is £700 for whole day and a pre wedding shoot. There will then be the cost of the album on top of this but that will vary depending on which we go for (£100 to £300).

My flower girl dress was £50

My bridesmaid dress was £80 from debenhams but you can expect to pay more from a bridal shop (around £150 a dress)

Suit hire is from moss and is £85 each for the groom and mens suit. £340 in total.

We are not having cars as a family menber has a horse and carriage but we were quoted on average £500 a car although alot of places do discounts on multiple bookings.

Flowers are £250 for mine, my CBM and rose buttons holes for the wedding party and 30 carnation button holes. We have ordered silk flowers for my FG which was £25.

Cake is £150 for 30 cupcakes and a top tier. We have ordered this from a local cake maker.

Alot of prices vary on where abouts in the country you are. We are in derbyshire.

Hope this is of some help to you

    Nicola x

    Thanks alot everyone.

It has given us an idea of how much we will need to put in the 'wedding pot'.

We are in Middlesbrough, North East so I can imagine things may be slightly cheaper here.

I've just put in what we've spent. I think you could spend as little or as much as you like really. Sorry!

Im not sure of an exact figure but there are ways of cutting the budget. Have a look in Debanhams/coast for dresses for the BMs, or getting material and getting their dresses made.

Try dress sample sales for you dress. I got mine in a closing down sale. It needa ths straps shortened, and cleaned but other than that its spot on! Or you could try some of the online shops for dresses - only thing is shop around and check their feedback. some girlies on here have used them so you can check for recommendations.

You can get lovely M&S and other supermarket iced wedding cakes if you want to add a couple of decorations to them yourself.

Negotiation with staff and shopping around for the wedding cars, flowers, and men's hire. Check for special offers as sometimes they do "hire so many mens suits, get the groom free"

Thats all I can think about now!! hope something there's of help!!
