In my head, I always said I wanted to do it all for £5000 (not including honeymoon) - I just couldn't justify a large amount of money on one day. It's now over £14,000. Whoooops!

We started planning in September last year and have come to realise we can afford it so on a few things have paid a little extra but on most things, I've got the cheapest thing possible!

What's this budget that you speak of!? I know I tell everyone to budget when they join hitched, but I don't have a clue what i've spent. I know we have a savings account and until it's empty i'm not worrying! Left overs will be nice. I'm not going OTT on anything and if i can get cheaper i will.

When we started, I had a budget of 5K in mind, however, we got some very generous help from both sets of parents and I got some redundancy money and the new budget is 8K... and I'm pleased to say, we are still within budget - hurrah!!

I stupidly thought that booking one of these £999 deals i'd be getting married for about £2000 altogether, what an idiot i am!!!!!!! buget planning shows that the wedding will cost more like £4000 - eek!!

Our budget was £5k but we came in at £3k (inc. all flights and minimoon)

I have no idea how you could spend £15k plus on a wedding apart from booking bands, and having an overly expensive gown etc.!?

As long as you're happy with your day...who care about the budget!

Mmm, yes this budget word, i dont think i fully understand it lol! We initially started saying about 10k, but I still have 9k left to pay out so im think it will be about 13/14k altogether, including honeymoon.

Trust me, it's pretty easy! Oh, and my dress was only £800, so not 'overly expensive'.

Our budget was £16,000 not including our honeymoon and I think we'll probably go over it a little but hopefully not too much.

I've just set out my budget - spreadsheet fun! We're roughly on £12,000 which includes everything we can think of from invites, venue hire, food + drink for 80, DJ, dress + accessories, entertainment, accomodation etc but not honeymoon. We really need to cut something down so having fun with numbers atm. The OH rolled his eyes when I put £300 down for invites and justified it 'because they were so pretty'!

Mmm, tahdah its quite easily done. My dress was £900, and no band, just a DJ. The biggest cost for us has been the venue, we have a lovely country house which costing us about £5-6k alone, but we booked it because we could have exclusive use, and that was quite important to us, so that swallowed up a load of the budget!

We wanted to do it for £7000 but it's nearer £10000 and that's not including the honeymoon! Half of that is just the reception!

Flowers are silk so got a few hundred knocked off AND cos the florist works with the hotel we get a free silk top table arrangement Smiley laugh

Photographer is OH's cousin and is doing it for free!

Band is another cousin, also free!

    Invites home made cos £20!

Vista print for about £200 worth of random stuff! A canvas bag, a t shirt, thank you cards, song request cards, a vinyl banner, directions to the hotel. All for £15 Smiley laugh

My car is my Dad's VW van and he's driving, surprise car for OH is my Dad's friends Capri an he's driving that! So all free!

Church is very close to the family so making a donation of £75 and paying £30 to the woman's group for flowers!

some great bargins there!!! but even though i've been a right spend thrift (my mum and dad think i'm weird because i've been so tight with my buget) its still going to cost more than i imagined, i'd hate to think how much it would have cost if i threw caution into the wind and money was no object!!!

I think we are pretty much on budget.

Dress was ALOT less than budgeted and we found an amazing photographer for an excellent price.

Will prob go a bit over budget on flowers.

Honeymoon come a little over budget at 5K but we have gone for 5* hotel when really we didnt need to but hey you only have one honeymoon!

Well, my dress was £160, our photographer and cake is free, transport cost is £100, my shoes were £7.69, invitations were £35, DJ is £195 and we've still managed to spend about £14,000. Our total venue and food & drinks costs are only around £6,500 too. Everything we've booked is the cheapest I could find. It just all seems to mount up!

I've gone the other way, lol. I went through and estimated how much things would cost on average and came up with a figure of £14k. Now it's my mission in life to see how much I can chop off that!!! I've already saved £2k on the venue so that's a bonus. I'm on a bargain hunt.......

We never really had a budget. We're very lucky that we're getting help with the cost. I think in the end, including honeymoon, we'll end up spending £18k but a large amount of that is the venue we chose and costs associated with that. We could have done it cheaper but as soon as my parents saw the venue, they knew it had to be there.

Well we started with writing things down to an estimate budget then, when we started to actually get price list it did seem like on some things we've under budgeted and some over. For example:

    venue over

dresses under- mine, bridesmaids and flower girl

stationary under/over - depending on if we use vista or do a diy job.

I had £10K in my head - its sitting at £11K at the mo but we've still got savings to make so I think we'll get around our original figure (I hope)

Yep we are going to come in about £2.5K over original budget down to spending about 4 times as much as we planned on a band, then opting for chair covers, fireworks and letting the guest list run away with us...

Omg! My church is £500 (a set fee) and its just my tiny local one! Unfortunatly i do not have the luxery of any friends or relatives with any wedding related skills. Originally i hoped it cost about £8,000 in total until i researched prices of things and had shock of my life!!

I'm not sure how people get such bargins (i have shopped around loads too), as when i've mentioned any discounts the person looks at me blankly! ? Everything i've looked at so far is pretty much a set price!

Including Honeymoon ours will be about £14,000-15,000 and is by no means a extragvant affair!

If anyone has any good budget savings ideas im all ears. So far we're going to:

    - only have the photographer for ceremony and after not brides house/reception to make it cheaper

    - Cake from M&S

    - Friend is DJ'ing

    - No favous

    - Homemade invites (these could look horrendous!!)

    - No venue dressing except chair covers (couldnt not have these) and just buy some scatter crystals off bay of e

    - flowers - just bouqet and top table no corsages or for BMs

Thats all we can think of but it seems to be just not spending rather than saving money, most of the cost is venue/reception so not much we could do!

    S xx

I was thinking about this and one of the resons people's budgets sound so different is becuase we will all include different things in our budget. We for example, have honeymoon and spends on the budget and a £1000 contingency, plus giftfs, pre-wedding accommodation (don't live in the town i'm getting married), wedding night and the day after accommodation. You name it - if it's related to the wedding, it's on the budget!
