Budget Help - Bargain Fizz under £4 a bottle - help for those sorting out their own supplies

Magserelli, 14 October, 2010 at 16:47 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi All,

Saw this & thought it might be of use to those of you sourcing your own wines. Asda are doing an Australian fizz for £3.98 - there's a Brut & matching Rose.

I had the Brut style at party this summer & it was lovely. I don't work for Asda ?, but I am a wine geek? - just saw it & thought it might be useful to those on a budget.

? I've already sorted our sparkling but really struggling on a red. Could I take advantage of your wine geek skills to recommend a red (to go with pork and onion sauce), between 6 and 8 pounds, and preferably from Tescos.

Or is that too cheeky ?

    Super advice!

I actually had a bunch of girlfriends over to our flat for dinner the other week with the request that they bring a bottle around 10CHF (I'm in Switzerland - this is around 7 GBP) to road test for the wedding. We all agreed on Cava Cristalino Brut (around 4 GBP) and Aldi's NZ Sauvignon Blanc (around 5 GBP).

I am still hunting for a red. The local wine is ok, but I don't think it will suit our British guest's tastes, as it's quite different in style to the choice we have in the UK.

    We bought this red:

    http://www.tesco.com/wine/product/details/default.aspx?N=8132+4294967084&No=10&id=266686569

As its a really easy-drinking Shiraz. We got it whilst it was half price during the wine fesitval (bargain!) and tried it before we ordered and both liked it.

We're having lamb but I think it would go with pork as it is really light and wouldnt overwhelm the dish.

    I also liked:

    http://www.tesco.com/wine/product/details/default.aspx?No=50&N=8132+4294967141&id=257225225

But my OH didnt so we went with the Shiraz and we both liked that one. Its quite a smooth red but think the Shiraz was lighter and was the safer option.
