I just wondered what everyones budgets are and how you are sticking to them? (What budget?!! lol) and also what is the thing that is costing the most? Ours is just over £10,500 - not including honeymoon and the most expensive thing is the 2 venues. The ceremony venue is £1400 and the reception one is £500 with £1000 minimum spend on catering.

if i work hard and save up for something i really want that cost £500 i would be proud of myself yes!!

we flash stuff for opinions, to show others what we want on our day and to show things off because we love them!

i have never read a 'flash' thread and considered anyone is showing off!! how ridiculous

anyway you cant talk about items on hitched and get away with NOT flashing them anyway!!!

in fact im ive seen you flashing a couple of times too AJ???

Why is it that people who say they are happy with a smaller budget feel that they have to comment on and criticise those that have a larger budget? It's interesting that people who have a bigger budget don't feel the need to do the same back...

So now i'm meant to feel inadequate? lol. Being self employed, as previously stated i could have a lavish wedding. But it begs the question....why the need to flaunt my money?

I'd personally prefer to donate some of that money to charities. I'd much rather see someone else benefit from my money to be honest.

it's funny how the people with the larger and more costly weddings feel that people are 'picking' on them........ thats not the case really is it.

Miss.understood, do you live under a bridge and charge people to cross it...

I am failing to see what other reason you could have for coming on a WEDDING PLANNING website to tell people off for spending money on and planning their weddings..

Miss.understood, I can understand your point about 'needing' to spend the money, miss.understood, however we both have good jobs, own our houses, one of us took a substantial paycut to work in the charity sector, we regularly donate a significant proportion of our income to charity. I don't say that to brag but to point out that as we have those building blocks of our lives in place, (and, I would say, our priorities in the right order) why then should we not be able to spend the money we want on our day?

The ceremony is the most important thing however we wouldn't be the people we are without our friends and family. Throwing a party to celebrate that seems a good thing to me. I don't consider that flaunting my money, even if you do.

Great work for your first posts on Hitched though, by the way...

    I haven't, we have.

It's so that our friends and family can share in our big day. That's actually the majority of the cost of our day.

Katy....the answer is no. And also no, i'm not some sad website troll.

I'm getting married in 199 days, everything booked and paid for, and i'm entitled as much as the next person to comment on these forums. this thread was about budgets. I stated my budget and simply said i think people lose sight on whats important.

then get slated because people take offence at another persons opinion. water of a ducks back. in my industry, coming under fire is all in a days work. Everyone is entitled to spend what they want. I just prefer to keep the most important part of the wedding and give more to charity than to one day for myself and my fiance.

So everything you do not need to spend directly on living expenses, (and really those could be reduced substantially by living in a tent and only eating worms) should be given directly to charity? Any different view of life clearly means your priorities are out of order and you're a horrible person and slightly insane for spending money on a wedding? Lol.

Missunderstood is a great name for a troll by the way!

I dont see the relevance of paying for your wedding and giving to charity?? we work hard and support our kids very well, why should we feel guilty that we are spending our money on our wedding day and not giving it all to charity!

(by the way i worked for a large well known dv charity for about 6 years and left because i was horrifird at how much of the generously donated funds went on anything but the 'victims' and the books were constantly 'fiddled' to hide this...)

Lolllllllllll spikeygoodness I like your style. I refuse to be made to feel like a bad person because I'd quite like my family and friends to have a lovely day watching us celebrate our love. And I'm looking forward to marrying the man of my dreams, who makes me feel amazing every single day.

    What a selfish person I am. ?

I like the tent idea. and for gods sake, i'm not a sodding troll. I've got better things to do than troll a website that i actually use to help plan my own wedding. Miss.understood is actually part of my email address and used as it's easy to remember.

I cant stand people who say the money could be given to charity instead. My dad works hard for what he has got and is fortunate to be in a better financial situation than most people so why should he be made to feel guilty for not giving it all to charity when instead he wants to spend it on his only daughters wedding day? He doesnt need to spend this money but he wants to.

It is planned and paid for, in that it's booked and paid for (ceremony and reception)...but the invites and favours i'm doing myself, so hitched is inspiration. I prefer a personal touch for those things.

Not that it's really any of your concern, but it's a 5 year term, 8.9% APR. It saves us worrying about missing out by not having the money when we need it so we can buy things we need when we see them (one bit of advice I've seen so many times is that if you see something get it because it won't be there when you go back) and helps our smooth planning.

We felt that the interest was worth it rather than saving up and getting married in 2015. We're both getting on a bit (be in our 40's by then anyway) so rather than waiting till then to start a family we thought we'd help ourselves along the way thanks to my friends at Barclays.

If our circumstances were different then our parents would all be helping with the costs but they aren't so they can't. Incidently, I work for a charity as well albeit in an administrative role so I'm not on your typical London salary of 40-50k.

This isn't a confessional for gods sake. I'm not arsed what the APR is....though generally speaking 8.9% is a decent rate Smiley smile

If you've used Hitched to plan your own wedding, how come your first post was in this thread?

Or are you simply a 'lurker'? If so, what was it about this thread that made you break cover?
