Budget - where to start?!

RomanticBlueFlowers796, 27 March, 2017 at 11:03 Posted on Planning 0 2

I haven't posted before so I'll try to keep this short and clear, I just got engaged and am starting to excitedly think about wedding planning! I imagine this is probably a how long is a piece of string question but I just don't know what a reasonable budget is! To be a bit more precise we are hoping for a barn style venue with a sit down meal and all the usual stuff that comes along with a wedding, can anyone give me a rough idea of what I'm looking at or your own experiences with different types of wedding venues and costs? Thank you so much

Hiya! Guest list determines budget to a great extent, and once you have that you can look at venues. But there is a great tool on Hitched for budget planning which is fantastic and gives you a great starting point.

Congratulations and good luck Smiley smile xx

    Hi and Congratulations!

I agree. You really need an idea of the number of day guests and any additional evening guests as this will dictate venue and most of your costs will be based per person i.e. food and drink costs etc.

Good luck and happy planning x

We looked around different levels of venue from super fancy to super cheap to get an idea of how much we'd be looking at spending in different types of venues and made a rough list. Then we worked out how much we could spend. We wanted a specific date so it was how much we could save in X months. Our budget has gone up. We started by saying a number that we pulled out of the air with no real research and we found it didn't get what we want.

I think it also helped that I made a list of what I wanted to spend on (food, photography and rings) and then there were the nice to haves which had to fit around that.
