Bunting!!

WickyWack, 26 April, 2012 at 08:49 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hi all,

Anyone else attempting to make their own bunting?

So far I have cut out approxiamtely a zillion (seriously, took ages!) triangles of fabric and am going to sew them together tonight.

How is everyone 'stringing' them up? Are we attaching to ribbon/binding??

Lauren

I was looking into this a while ago for my baby daughter's 1st bday but ended up just buying some off the bay of E! (lazy mum icon!) I am making paper chains myself though.... ? ?

Anyway, I saw some videos on YouTube about making bunting which might be of help to you?

Would love to see some pics when they are finished.

I got my bias tape from amazon where it was a bit cheaper than in the department stores. I've made mine with my MOH using instructions that she found from Kirstie Allsop. We used a machine to do all the sewing, by hand would have taken forever.

Word of warning - I insisted we had double sided bunting and sewed all the triangles together - it took us AGES! I wish I'd just sewn the single triangles onto the tape as it looks just as nice for much less effort. Can't flash as all the bunting is at my MOH's house but it does look very effective and really nice to know you've made it yourself.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the replys!

I think I'm going to get some bias tape/binding tape but I'm unsure of what meterage to buy?

I want to do about 3 ''strings'' of bunting to drape width to width of the village hall but I'm not sure of the measurements?

    Help!

I'm making our Bunting, same as you using two triangles sewn together, however I am using Cotton twill tape ( as used on aprons) to sew the triangles on, (got it on ebay) a friend of mine who is a seamstress suggested this as Bias Binding strecthes a little.

Can't believe how long the Bunting is taking to make!! still got loads to do!!

I designed and cut my own bunting and MIL2B sewed it for me.

I wanted it to be 'glamourous' bunting (just in our range of colours and quite luxurious fabrics etc) ratehr than shabby chic style - so I used satin bias binding.

I just cut triangles with pinking shears, and put them on singly - rather than doublesided.

I put each triangle corner to corner - so to work out how much binding i would need I measured my triangles and multiplied that by the number I had.

    I love bunting!
