Bursting to talk about things but it's a SECRET!!!

Hedgemog , 9 January, 2016 at 20:03 Posted on Planning 0 4

So almost 3 years after cancelling it looks like we are back on for the end of March. Me and OH will be going to Gretna, just us, no family interfering or causing problems and no one is going to know beforehand. I'm really excited but it's sooooo hard not having anyone to talk to or run ideas by. We have very little to sort out but not much time and I want things to be right.

What do you guys think of:

White dress with grey lace bolero?

White dress with grey fur shawl?

Matching said bolero/shawl to the grey of OH suit?

Morning or afternoon ceremony?

eBay dresses from China (I have approx. £100 for dress, shoes, jewellery etc. so pretty tight)

Smiths Hotel or Greens at Gretna (we have both provisionally booked until we make our final decision next week)

I think that's it for now...maybe for the next hour or so at least. Any input would be greatly appreciated as OH just keeps saying get what I want but that's hard when I'm not sure what I want!

Congratulations! You must be massively excited ?

Personally, I'd go for the shawl rather than the bolero. Matching it to your OH's suit sounds like a great idea.

Morning or afternoon is personal preference - after all, you don't have to worry about entertaining guests or anyone. I suppose the things to think about are if you had a morning ceremony, when would you be getting to Gretna and how long would you want to get ready in a relaxed way? If you had a morning ceremony, then you could go for a nice afternoon tea or book a day in a spa or something afterwards to pamper you both.

eBay dresses from China - they can take 4-6 weeks, so if you need to alter them the timescales are very tight. Have you had a look at outlet stores in the UK or how about going to the high street while the sales are on? £100 is tight but doable. If you have nice shoes or jewellery that you already like, you can always use that to keep costs down. I find it very hard to get shoes that are comfortable, so I'm going to wear a pair that I already own. They don't look fantastic, but they'll be under my dress so no-one will see them, and I don't need to panic about whether I'll be desperate to take them off after an hour.

I'm so happy, after 11 years together it's finally happening.

We will be going to Gretna the day before so no worries there. OH thinks morning but I'm leaning towards afternoon as I don't want to rush getting ready. I've looked in all the shops (online) I can think of but there is nothing I like in my size in either white or blush. I've not come across outlet shops for wedding dresses, how would I find them?

Look on vivienne of Holloway Facebook group towards start of Jan end of 2015 they have a 50% off some of the beautiful dresses particularly if you might be a little open minded. Good luck xx

I love some of the VOH dresses but I really want a long dress dress. My back up choice is a Lindybop Ophelia in ivory if I can't get a maxi. I think it comes down to shoes. I will be wearing flats and as a size 8 I find my feet can look a bit boatish so I want to cover them up!

With regards to your chice of Gretna, I know Inked doll got married there this time last year and has always recommended it. I'm not sure how often she gets on here these days, but if you want some more details head over to the Hitched Awards section, her report is nominated in the best report section.
