Buses - help would be much appreciated!!!

Gillsy, 18 August, 2009 at 08:11 Posted on Planning 0 10

The quick questions - Did anybody run buses for guests??? Is it fair to just bus guests home at the end of the night and expect them to make their own way there???

The background info - Our wedding is in a kinda remote location between 2 small towns – 1.5 miles from one and 4 miles from the other.

Some of the Scottish girlies will probably know the geography of this but I’m from Irvine, my OH is from Darvel and we socialise in Kilmarnock. I work in Glasgow and he works in East Kilbride, therefore all our guests are scattered around all over the place.

Its going to be impossible to run buses for everybody but I was interested if anybody else had this issue and what, if any transport did you provide?

We are talking around 80 guests for day and another 110 in the evening although I know that not everybody will be able to make it and the ones that do won’t all require buses.

Sorry this is so long – help!!!! Please????

    Hi Gillsy

Not sure I can be much help but I had to say hello as my parents live in Kilmarnock Smiley smile

My sister's wedding a few years ago was in Fenwick, the guests were scattered around a bit, from Glasgow, Ayr, Troon and a few other places and there was no transport provided to get them there. We did have a bus back to Kilmarnock at the end of the night, mostly cos it was easier than getting taxis for the wedding party, we told the guests there would be a bus but only 2 or 3 people came with us.

(now I've thought for a bit longer...)
I think people mostly expect to get themselves to and from a wedding anyway. As a guest I'd certainly take advantage of free transport if it made things easier but wouldn't expect it at all. In fact apart from that bus home from my sister's I think I've only been to one wedding with any transport laid on, and that was just to get people from the ceremony to the reception, again mostly for the wedding party but they did an extra trip for other people who hadn't driven to the ceremony.

    Hi Gillsy,

We are having buses but we are asking guests to go to the reception first where the buses will pick them up and take them to the church and then back to the reception. The problem for us is the chuch is in the centre of town, 2 weeks before Christmas parking will be an issue. the venue are setting an area of the carpark for our guests.

    Hope this helps

    Lisa

    We provided buses.

There was a 33 seater from the church to the reception. Then another one picked up the evening guests and brought them to the reception, then another one took them all home again. On average we were looking at £180 to hire a coach, regardless of distance.

Cost us 400 bucks or so but I think it was really appreciated and a good time was had by all on the buses....

Thank you so much ladies - this really does help. We are having the ceremony and the reception in the Hotel so no need for anybody to leave there one they are in.

I'm thinking we might just see our local day guests ok by bringing them to the venue and then having a bus to run both day and evening guests home (if they want it).

    Cheers, Gx

We did this. We had a civil service at the reception venue and gave people local cab numbers in the info sheet and asked if they wanted a seat on the bus back after the eve reception (most people were staying in the local town about 15 mins away).

I'm going to do this, only for my evening reception guests though. Even though our venue is only a have hr drive from the city centre I want my guests to be able to enjoy themselves instead of worrying about which one is going to be the designated driver.

Haven't got any prices yet though ☹️
