I've had a really busy wedding week this week.
It started out bad with my sister who is my only bridesmaid saying that she can't come to the wedding in Vegas. She gave birth to her first baby just 3 weeks ago and up until she was born, Diane had planned to take baby Doireann with her. Then with all the stuff about swine flu in America and the local paper printing some paranoid pieces on it, she decided she couldn't risk it. We were both very upset about it, but I totally understood that being a mum changes your perspective. Diane had said she'd hold off trying for a baby until after the wedding, but I pushed her to try before as I knew she was dying to be a mum. So I guess I always knew there'd be a chance she wouldn't be able to come.
Now to the good news. Last night she rang me and said she's been so upset by the idea of not going that she's changed her mind! She's leaving Doireann with her dad and his parents and coming to Vegas after al!. She knows it'll be tough, but I've promised her she can Skype the baby from my laptop any time she wants! I'm so moved that she's coming. Leaving your 3 month old baby for a week is a huge sacrifice to make and I can't believe she'd do that for me!
I also got a call from the wedding dress shop to say that my dress is in! There was a small problem however. The dress has been made in the wrong fabric. It should be in a synthetic taffeta, but for some reason, it's been made in a much more luxurious silk taffeta! The lady in the dress shop has investigated to see if someone else had a silk version of my dress on special order, but turns out they've never made one in silk before. It seems they've used the wrong bolt of fabric just for mine. Given that if I had requested it in silk it would have cost me around another £1K and I'm getting it for free, I'm not complaining! First fitting is in 3 weeks and I've lost 12lbs so far. Hopefully I'll have another few off by then.
We've also sent out all of our invites this week. I'm really chuffed with how they turned out. I designed them with a friend who has a background in graphics and got them printed up by vistaprint. Doing it this way has saved us loads of money! For STD's, 3 different types of invites, 2 types of RSVP cards and all our stamps, we've paid £200 which is less than I had budgeted!
And (there's still more, lol) OH last night offered to have earrings made for me for the wedding. I bought a fabulous vintage style hair comb and bracelet a while ago and haven't been able to find the right earrings despite hours of online searching and going to every shop I can think of. It's been really frustrating, so OH's offer is really sweet!
After quite a long, long lull in my planning, things are finally back in full swing. About time too. There's only 10 weeks left til we leave to get married!
