button hole ques

kisses, 19 August, 2008 at 21:38 Posted on Planning 0 10

I have been looking in wedding magz and have noticed that the men dont seem to be wearing button holes. considering i am on a budget& want things plain & simple& a little different i thought about just the groom wearing a button hole and the rest not wearing anything. they will all be wearing cravats/ suits to distinguish themselves anyhow. wot use think???

I'd say it's up to you...what about just the groom and best man...I think you can get carried away as last count I had was 20 odd buttonholes which is just daft!

You could consider getting silk flowers - this may be quite a bit cheaper particularly if you a re looking for roses around Valentine's Day. There are a few HIBs on here that do this kind of thing.

Traditionally, it is the principal guests who wear buttonholes and corsages i.e., Groom, Best Man, Father of Bride, Father of Groom and any ushers who are in attendance. Mother of the Bride, MOG, and if desired, Grandma's, favourite Aunts wear the corsages. Any extra to this is purely a matter of choice and budget but not expected. My experience of providing buttonholes for all the guests is that many of them don't get used. Men don't particularly like wearing them anyway and a lot of ladies don't like attaching them to their outfits unless they are closely related to the Bride/Groom. Over recent years, the trend in wedding magazines has been to show all guests wearing them but this is the exception, not the norm. Hope this helps.

I'm not bothering with button holes or corsages at all! I'm assuming it should be quite obvious who the groom is!

If you can afford it just do the dads, groom and best man as they are the most important you can have fancy for the groom and a basic one for the others...

    Hope it helps..

I think the groom just wearing them would be fine. If all the Ushers, Best Man, FOB & FOG are in the same suits as your H2b then they'll stand out from the others anyway.

To keep our costs down we had a posh double rose button hole for H but the others had cheaper carnation button holes.

Thanks for your advice...i will think it over as i have another while to make up my mind. ive been to so many weddings wer they have fallen off or even seen lotsa photos wer the button hole is upside down or not straight...i would prefer nothing than 2 have them crooked or wilted

I had beautiful silk roses for buttonholes and they were all kept but those who had them - fathers, brothers, sisters, grandparents. The mums had corsages, and my 2 brideslaves had wrist corsages. They were slightly different by having bear grass with the mens roses, and wire and sparkles for the ladies, and the corsages had orchids too. They were stunning and worth every penny, and doubled up as a little keepsake as well.
