buttonholes and corsages thoughts

Princess Bride 2013, 19 May, 2015 at 10:25 Posted on Planning 0 1

I will be making the buttonholes and corsages myself and if I'm honest I've not really given them much thought.

I was thinking about maybe having carnations or roses with fern Or Grass strands. Originally my thought was to have the buttonholes yellow to compliment the bridesmaids in their champagne/gold dresses and the corsages pink, both will have small white flowers un to I think. The corsages will have a pearl pin pushed through the centre of the rose or carnation.

Do you think that sounds ok? I'm a little out of my depth, especially since the MIL made a comment about me doing them myself! I really want them to be nice just to shut her up lol

Are the buttonholes and corsages normally the same colour/flowers? I know that a corsage is essentially the same as a buttonholes just worn upside down but not sure what the 'norm' is re colour.

Also, who would typically wear them?

Oh just had a thought, maybe the buttonholes shoukd match the bouquets, which will be pink, white (also doing them myself)??? Suggestions welcome!

My friend did all my flowers and i just let her get on with it so i'm not sure if this is the 'right' way of doing it.

MOB and MOG had corsages. OH and best man had buttonholes. I have a feeling ushers did too, but i'm not sure if that's the done thing. Can't remember about FIL to be honest... Ups.... i'm not much help.. haha! Seeing that only a year and a half later i can't even remember, I'd say don't worry too much!

What you have suggested sounds lovely and your MIL will be very impressed!

We had different colours but that was because we had an autumn theme and had a range from red to yellow in the bouquets. If you want to have a mix of colours i don't see why you shouldn't.

You could do buttonholes for the ladies but an actual corsage is very different to a buttonhole. Corsages are made from lots of individually wired small flowers and constructed in the shape of a miniature bouquet. I guess it depends what Mums are expecting.. There are no hard and fast rules and, at the end of the day, you can do what you like but to show you the difference, these are photos of a buttonhole and a corsage:-
