Buying dresses from the US

leni, 15 February, 2009 at 21:26 Posted on Planning 0 2

I tried on a dress yesterday and it's defo a contender although slightly over budget?

anyway, the dress I tried on fitted perfectly and apart from the length would need no alterations. I've seen a site in the us selling it for $280 as opposed to the £700 here. Would you order a dress from the US? does anyone have any experiences of this? good or bad!

For such a reduction, I would say that it sounds like a copy? Best to make sure as a lot of the overseas sites have pics of the actual dress but in reality it is a copy that will be made. Mine is like this but from China as I just couldn't afford to pay the £1400 price tag but could not find any other style of dress I liked as much. I went to several sample sales as well and still nothing.

If it is a copy, try not to totally fall in love with the original as it won't be exactly the same. Make sure you do your research. See if there are any satisfied customers you could contact, don't just go by the site's reviews. Spend a lot of time on google searching for the shop's name in reviews on other forums etc. Oh and make sure you pay by credit card just in case things don't go according to plan and you need to do a charge back.

On a nosey point, can we see pics?!

Another thing to take into consideration when buying abroad is the postage and packaging, depending on where you get your dress from you could be paying the same price on postage as what you would when buying the dress in the UK.
