Buying little & often??

ksummers81, 22 July, 2013 at 00:12 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hello

Me & my partner are on a real tight budget. I'm planning on buying things little and often so there are no huge bills at any one time.

We get married next summer so dress, shoes etc can't be purchased just yet but what small things can I buy now to lower the cost later?

Thabk you x

    Hi and welcome

You can start buying your table decorations if you know exactly what you want. I think that the secret to buying little and often and not wasting money is planning and then planning some more! You say that you can't buy your shoes and dress yet, is there a reason why?

Have you got any inspiration yet on how you want things to be?

Hello and welcome! Things like Table centrepieces if you're not having flowers, invites or materials for invites and stationery, card box, other decorations etc. You can also put deposits down for the bigger items like photographer, venue, catering etc. Also you may be able to but shoes/dress etc. I bought my dress a few months ago and its not until next May. The only advice if give is make sure you're clear on what you want and decisive on the outset otherwise you could end up buying stuff you change your mind on later, I know I have!

Little and often definitely a good thing. I've kept a note of all my little purchases on a spreadsheet so at least I can keep track of the spending.

I've bought the place cards, favour bags, ribbon, shoes (£17.50 in sale!), bags for the BMs (£6 each in Primark!).

If I see something cheap that I know I'll use I'll get it. Plus it's nice to keep buying bits and bobs. I've still got over 7 months til the big day and most of the planning is done, just little things to do now.

Im very much the same. We're getting married June next year, and I was already buying things back in January. Things like centre pieces and decorative bits. Plus I bought my bridesmaid dresses last week because they were in the summer sale. I think its good to be prepared and get things as and when you see them. Im on the lookout at the moment for shoes and accessories

And its not too early for your dress, I bought mine in February! First shop, 5th dress, done!!

    xx

You could still buy your dress & shoes now! I get married next July and bought my dress last April ?

If you're doing your centrepieces yourself, these can be done early

Also, if you're doing your invites yourself you could make a start on these - The Range has a good selection of card etc. to use & there is also a website called PDA Card & Crafts that does too.

Another thing you could start buying now is gifts for the wedding party - looking out for any special deals.

Tbh, it's not too early to do the majority of things as often if you book suppliers early they will let you have them at this year's prices - the prices generally go up every year with anything to do with weddings!!!

Wouldn't rule out buying your dress now if you're on a tight budget. I bought mine in a closing down sale last July for £150. It's been a massive motivation to diet.

I thought I was a 'little and often' shopper until this month, when my spending has ballooned.

    Hello & welcome Smiley smile

We are doing the same as don't have a massive budget. We've paid deposits for venue, cars & meals etc. Meeting photographer next to pay deposit, then florist in august & sort out dj, then i'll be getting dress / shoes etc then focus on paying off the rest one at a time, at the same time when we have some spare cash we're buying little decorations and things so we don't leave it all last minute and end up paying out loads. Write a list and prioritise what you want first and work out what deposits you could get down first, slowly but surely you'll get there..i hope to be quite well organised from now on but will see how that goes lol Smiley smile xx

I agree, things for centre pieces. I bought a load of tealight holders at ikea, 12 for £2. You should start looking for dress/shoes if your budget allows. If you have to order it, it oculd take weeks to be made. My wedding is next August, I found my dress and ordered it last month but even then it isn't likely to be in the shop until closer to xmas. Xmas and chinese new year(depending on where it is made) can make it take even longer to arrive.

If you are spending less on a dress the summer sales could be your best friend.

I'm trying to stop buying little things, it's too easy and I'm watching the wedding money trickle away. If you have the will power, I would try and save it for the big things that will make more of a difference then see what it left over for the little things.
