Cake!!!

jimjams, 18 October, 2012 at 22:08 Posted on Planning 0 24

Anyone willing to flash, or give ideas on cakes??

I'm especially interested in anything out of the ordinary... Anyone NOT having cake, or having cake that isn't "wedding" cake??

We are going to have a set up something like this:

So far I have 5 single tier, 2 3-tier and 1 2-tier cake stands, assorted english country garden style crockery, and we plan to have one small 2-tier cake from M&S, but the rest will be assorted flavours of normal cake, cupcakes, brownies, macarons, cookies, etc. Variety is the spice of life, right?

I have this picture already and I LOVE it!!

When is your wedding... I don't suppose you fancy selling your cake stands and crockery when you're done with them do you? Recoup some of your costs?? ;-) xxx

We're having homemade cupcakes, a big gooey chocolate 'wedding' cake, a couple of big cheesecakes, and a couple of other cakes.

We had all orange French Fancies (with a small fruit cake on top) and the guests ate them at the evening reception.

    Hi,

Nothing too out of the ordinary but I'm having a four tier chocolate cake a bit like this with some holly or trailing ivy added. Flavour wise we're having one tier of white chocolate and raspberry, one chocolate and caramel, one chocolate and mint and a chocolate peanut butter tier on top.

This was ours. It was traditional in the sense that it was cake, but we had fruit, carrot and chocolate cake tiers, iced in green fondant icing with tiny pink roses. It was super yummy!

I'm in Cambridgeshire, so not that far, but typically we just decided to move the wedding date and now it's before yours so it wouldn't work anyway. Nevermind, I will have to get buying stands myself... What sort of places did you find yours? Were they expensive?

    Thanks!

I'm really loving the idea of a cake table with all sorts of different varieties... Has anyone else done this, I'd love to see some flashes, I daren't go with the pink, think my OH would have something to say about that! Haha xxx

Mine isn't as glam as most of the others which have been posted, but I made it myself, except for the topper which one of my friends made. It was quite stressful to do even though it was pretty simple, but I was pleased with the end result!

I got a couple from tesco for £8 on sale - plain white, a couple from M&S for free (I was working for head office, and they had design extras), one from cath kidston for full price (but I love it!), one from John Lewis in the end of summer sale for about £5, and all the crockery I got was charity shop for between £1 and £5.

Aw thanks Graceyfly and Jimjams. I did a few practice runs, which kept my colleagues in cake for a couple of months! The tricky bit is the icing and to be honest mine was a bit cracked/wrinkly, but it's not as though anyone was looking at the cake very closely anyway!

This was our cake table with cupcakes and hired cake stands, as i didn't want a traditional cupcake tower and of us cutting the cake.

I'm also having a dessert/cake buffet table which many of our family, friends as well as me and OH will be contributing to. Lots of OH's family are fabulous bakers and bringing cakes and desserts to parties and celebrations is just the 'done' thing, so they were all more than willing to contribute for our wedding, bless em!
These are the piccys that inspired me:

We're also planning on having a cheese tower to serve with breads, crackers, pickles, chutneys, a smoked ham and lashings of port for evening food
