Cake Baking Question (possibly a bit dim)

majix, 15 March, 2009 at 13:54 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

I'm about to start making a victoria sponge and have noticed the recipe calls for 2 8 inch tins when i only have 7 inch. Now, I presume this isn't a major disaster, and was thinking possibly lower the temperature slightly and increase the cooking time a little? (Was working on the assumption that the mixture won't be spread as thinly as in the larger tin).

Does this sound sensible, or am i missing something important about the extra inch???

Thanks in advance!

I'd leave the temp but poss give it a bit longer, saying that i pay no regard generally to tin sizes/ cooking times as we have a stanley (aga type thing!) so cakes are cooked until a knife can be stuck in and come out clean.

I would leave the temp alone, and increase cooking time slightly due to the thickness, would prob only need a few extra minutes tbh! Good luck

Fab, thanks for the replies. I'll run with it and just keep an eye on it.
