Cake Costs!

lamby, 22 February, 2010 at 18:44 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi everyone,

For those of you that have ordered a cake to be made, how much are you paying for it and what sort of size / detail is it please?

Also, were you advised on an extra tier if you have quite a lot of guests, etc? We're having 140 including evening, but were thinking of 3 tier - I've read somewhere that a lot of places make extra cake for the guests in addition to the tiers?

Budget is around £350 for one fruit, 2 sponge, something nice and detailed - ish but not overly fancy.

Advice appreciated please! Thanks x

Depending on where you're marrying and your choice of designs, we'd certainly be able to help (surrey or surrounding counties).

If outside this area, still get in touch and we'll point you in the right direction.

We are having this 3 tier with carrot, sponge & chocolate sponge cake which will serve 200 and a square fruit cake which will serve about 50 just for cutting. Total is £205.

It depends which part of the country you are in though.

Ha! My sister has agreed to do it - so I don't have a flash, but it's going to be quite plain - round tiers with a gold ribbon with a rose on (am hoping vv roleaux might be able to make this??)

Wow, kew, amazing - that'll be beautiful!

I might do a London Brides thread...Or are we the only two??

Jules made my cake, and was excellent, and considerably cheaper than what I had been priced elsewhere, so depending where you are I'd seriously consifer her! Saying that, I live near Jules, but transported my cake for 2 hours in the car to get to our reception, so I'd consider her even if she's not local! ha ha x

I'm getting married in the Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich. I haven't fisxed my makeup yet! Have to do that. My hairdresser's doing my hair - he's charging £150 to do me and M-in-Law - which I know seems a lot, but it is London, he's coming out to me, and I'm just relieved I've got someone I know.

150 for 2 sounds about right! definitely worth getting someone you feel safe with. for my hair and makeup haven't found any quotes below 180 - and all the decent people are around the 250 mark! seen people here getting both for 50-60 in other parts of england - weeeep! good luck wit makeup hunt! x

Mine is £500...though its very unusual, hence the price and we've got 80 Thorton's continental truffles going up it instead of fruit. It's for 140 portions

Thanks so much everyone - wow it really seems to vary doesn't it? Guess I need to shop around! I'm in the midlands - Nottingham, so hopefully won't get stung too much - good luck London Brides, can't believe what a difference it makes! x

There's not a pic of mine on my cake maker's website, but we are having a 3 tier, bottom fruit cake, middle lemon sponge, top normal sponge. It's going to be pretty simple - ivory with orange and peach sugar calla lillies and roses cascading down the front with champagne coloured ribbon. It's costing us £365 but OH's parents have offered to pay for it which is a bonus ?

I think they are far too expensive to be honest, but that may just be where I am in the country!

<Aside> Brideseekingblush I didn't know you were getting married in the Trafalgar! I love it there, will be gorgeous in the summer too overlooking the Thames. OH and I used to go there all the time when we first met each other ?
