Cake Etiquette

Bobbins30, 12 July, 2010 at 20:58 Posted on Planning 0 13

Just been looking at my planning section and my to do list on here......have seen a note saying that after the wedding I should arrange for cake to be sent to people who couldn't attend. Is anyone doing this and is it the 'done' thing? I've never heard of it before!

I think traditionally it is sent to be people who buy you a gift but don't attend. I don't think it's the done thing anymore. Most people serve the cake with evening buffet now x I know I am.

Nope! Dont come, dont get any cake!

We're cutting ours up to have with the evening BBQ so i doubt there will be any left!

My nan and Grandad will attend the church, but probably not the evening reception where the cake will be served / eaten so I am going to making sure some-one saves them a slice..

Otherwise - nope I won't be sending cake here / there / everywhere!

Popular in the 60s and 70s...when you could actually buy special boxes for the purpose from the post office! I've not heard of it being done recently as so many people incorporate their cake into the meal to have with coffee or part of the evening buffet.

I read that this is tradition but I say if you don't come then tough luck.

They will probably just through it in the bin anyway.

Can't be bothered with that one! I may say to someone take a piece home for whoever if they can't attend, but i'm not bothering with posting it!

My nannan wont be coming to the wedding as she doesnt like to go to strange places travelling just in case she has a fit - she feels unncomfortable.

So am making sure i do her a little wedding package cos i know she would love to be there.

It's going to have in it a piece of cake, an order of service, a photo of me and my H2B, and then a family photo of my dad mum sister brother and me, also a favour and a flower from the day.

Never heard of that myself, though we did sent some to a frail aunt, who simply couldn't make it because of her health.

We sent her a piece of cake and a few photos. It really made her day, because she was upset she wasn't able to come.

But we did that just because we though it would be a nice thing to do, not because we were aware it was any tradition.

We had quite a lot of cake left even though it was served with the evening buffet - we sent some home with our parents to various people who weren't at the wedding (including grandparents) and most of the rest we took into work or gave to friends the next day.

Confetti sell boxes for sending cake in - I think it's a nice idea if people can't make it for one reason or another Smiley smile

well I dont think I have many that wont be able to come but my mum will be taking them a piece of cake when Im on honeymoon! Previously when neighbours have had weddings from their houses, we've kept an eye on their house with it being full of pressies and all. so they have said they would do the same for us, and they gave us some cake, so we'll be giving them some 2!! lol.
