Cake Flash Please!

GeordieBarbie, 21 November, 2009 at 09:56 Posted on Planning 0 41

Can we have a cake flash please?? I've been mooching for ideas without much luck.

I'm having a 3 tier stacked cake and want it to be quite plain & simple. Had thought of pink ribbon and some pink gerberas on it but since i've made all that up, I can't quite imagine what it will look like. Our Mam's are making the cake (my Mam bottom fruit tier, his Mam top 2 sponge layers)

So, since I know you all love a flash - please flash me your cakes! Or ideas... ?

Thanks!

It's a bad picture but it's white with pearl studs all over, white ribbon and iced roses on top. Very simple!

We had the simple M & S cake and had ribbon and little floers put onto it.

The bloody venue women stacked it wonky tho (GGGGRRRRR) oh well one of the only things that went wrong om the day, so i cant grumble too much!!

I don't have a cake to flash but wanted to say thanks GB for this thread was thinking of starting it myself this weekend. I need to order my cake in January so I need to try and make a decision soon.

I'm like you and have thought of something simple with a coloured ribbon and flowers.

Heres what I've seen that I quite like (the left one is in my colours):

I like the 2nd pic Gillsy.

I dont really know what mine is going to look like till the day before as my sisters OH cousin is making it for us, its got to be transported down from Birmingham the day before. If I dont like it, it will be a M&S job, haha!

Im getting an M&S cake and a bit stuck on how to decorate it too so im no help whatsoever but thanks for the thread GB.

Also are there any advantages over having the tiers separated instead of stacked directly on top of each other. We are having 1 layer each of fruit, plain sponge and choc sponge so were going to put it out as dessert on the evening. Will it be too difficult to separate and cut up if we have it stacked? (hope that makes sense)

Gillsy I love the 2nd pic too!

Haha! Seems we all want inspiration! ?

I like that 2nd pic too actually Gillsy - even though it's not quite the plain thing I was imaging! ? Id I ignore the extra lines on it, I think that's the type of flower arrangement I want. But I quite like the extra lines. Wonder if thin bits of ribbon could be used for that effect...?

    Any more out there??

Gillsy i love both of those pics, i cant help with the flash thing but we have ordered ours we are having 40 cupcakes (two different ) flavours and then a 6'' top tier white iced with a flower of scotland tartan ribbon around it and a fresh flower spray similar to my CBM wrist corsage and then we will have deep red/burgundy rose buds dotted between the cupcakes! happy cake hunting, the taste testing is the best bit, although does nothing for 'the wedding diet'!! lol x

The more I look at it, the more I love it as well Kate. Think I might go with something like this for my cake - my colours are victorian lilac right enough but I was planning to have ivory geberas in my bouquet and pink ones for the BMs so can work that into it.

Here is mine, to go with my ivory/cream/champagne and silver theme:

(sorry if it's really huge, dunno how to make it smaller!)

max - really like the cupcake-y cake with a cake on top! never seen anything like it - usually all cupcakes or all tiers.

N for those looking for a pink cake - here is one i really like (you could have gerberas instead of orchids...):

My mum chose mine and I didn't get a say. I wasn't bothered about having a cake but my mum said I must, it's the best bit of a wedding! Forget your daughter getting married, she just wants cake!

I know how you feel Moya50!

My mum is making my cake and im sure I told her I wanted a 3 tier 12" 9" and "

However talking the other day she says I think its going to be strange having an 8" top cake (look of shock on my face) she continues well 12" 10" 8" is weird (not sure wwhere she got these sizes from!) so im going to do you a 4 tier with 6" on the top!!!

OH says let her do what she wants as its her input however..... ive already said im okay with it being pillared not stacked and im not too sure if 4 tiers will be too much!! on the other hand i dont want to demand what she makes for me!!

Oh dear...at least we agreed on a square! she's getting excited as going to cake college so wants to add frills and all sorts!!! Lordy help me!!!

Thanks everyone - some lovely cakes. But you've just confused me now! ?

I'm not sure i'm liking the gerberas on the cake actually. Don't know why since they're my fave flower - just not sure they go with the cake...

Would it be wierd if the cake had different flowers on? All the wedding flowers (button holes, bouquets, table decs) are going to be gerberas so will it look off to have lillies or something on the cake...?

I absolutely loved our cake and we had so many comments about it from the venue and guests. We also had a separate tier just for cutting so we could have chocolate, fruit and vanilla sponge.
