Cake help pls!

CharleeA, 2 February, 2013 at 09:40 Posted on Planning 0 4

We are having a 3 tiered m&s cake for our wedding but im unsure how to present it?

Personally, I dont like the pillars and im wondering if its safe to stack them? Im having a larger fruit base then 2 sponge tiers?

If I cant stack them how else can I present them? Ive been looking at cake stands on the internet but most of them are either for cupcake use or are mega expensive (£30+) for a silver one which is ou of our budget! Any ideas anyone?

Thank you!x

You can stack them. M&S sell the dowels, and they have a video on their website of how to do it - click the 'watch video' button below the picture of the cake (sorry for long link)

    Hiya

ive just finished putting together a 3 tiered birthday cake that I made! You can totally stack them. Are there going to be boards under neith the second and top tiers or will it be cake touching icing? If there are boards you can dowel each individual layer and place them in top a few days in advance if you'd prefer.

If its cake touching icing it will be fine to dowel the fruit cake and the first sponge cake layer a few days in advance too but leave the top one until as last minute as you can.

One final thing. Push the dowels in from the top and not push the cake over the dowels!

Oh! Actually finally ... Remember to hide the dowels in the top layer with the topper!

Good luck, p.m. Me if you want to discuss more, it's what I do!

Hire a cake stand for £15!

I had this one (the stand, not the cake) & saved time putting dowels in & hoping it would hold the cake. You can decorate the metal with ivy or ribbons to hide it if you want.

Most cake shops let you hire the stands. I walked past my local shop yesterday and called in . The charge £15 pick up on Thursday and return Monday.
