Cake questions

Chidders, 25 October, 2011 at 12:08 Posted on Planning 0 23

Hi there fellow Hitchers,

Could you please help. I am trying to decide on the cake, which requires several decisions and where better to canvas ideas!

Could you please tell me,

How many is your cake to serve?

Size and tiers?

Flavours?

Cost if you don't mind?

And finally ,a flash????? Pretty please.

We're having three tiers (12 inches, 7 and 5.5 or thereabouts) to feed 120. Top tier fruit cake, middle carrot cake and bottom chocolate fudge cake. OH's mum is making it Smiley smile

I'm having a tower of 80 of these cup cakes topped with an 8 inch fruit cake. Also a cheese tower with 2 maybe 4 cheeses - this is to feed about 120. Costs 320 and approx 150.

We're having a 3-tier sponge cake, which will give either 120 finger slice portions or 60-70 larger servings. It's going to be a plain vanilla sponge, with jam and buttercream, but with a cool decorative twist Smiley smile

If you want an AWESOME cake designer, check out Jen's Cakery, she's fab, amazingly talented, and really very affordable.

    We're having 3 tiers, 12", 10" and 8"

Bottom tier fruit cake, middle tier lemon sponge, with lemon curd and lemon butter cream, and top tier vanilla sponge, strawberry jam and vanilla bean buttercream.

Cost £250, including set up on the day and should feed about 120 people, as she does her cakes quite deep!

and finally this is what it will roughly look like:

Ours was 3 tiers, 8, 10 and 12 inches square. If it had all been cut up I think it would easily have fed 200, but we saved the top tier, and still had quite a lot of the other two spare.

All 3 layers were fruit; the top and bottom made by my mum and the middle one by OH's mum, which was nut-free. It was iced by one of Mum's friends, so we paid £100 for materials only.

Lulu - I adore your cake!!

Ours was 5 tiers - 2 sponge, 1 choccy, 1 sponge plus a fake top tier plus a seperate choccy cutting cake and a seperate sponge one. The eating ones were 8,12,14 16" plus a 2 trays the sort of size of a baking tray wide plus twice as long.

We served it to 100 and there wasn't a scrap left but then, my lot adore cake, says I, who may have had 2, possibly 3 or 4 slices on the night ?

It cost us £450 plus the cost of decoration from the florist.

Ours is going to be 4 tiers vanilla base, lemon 2nd, chocolate 3rd and a small vanilla top tier just for me.

It will cost 225 pounds from a cake maker in town (she does our birthday cakes every year and are gorgeous) It will look similar to this but with little dots.

Ours was four tiers - fruit, choc sponge, plain sponge and lemon sponge. It was to serve 150 approx. Not sure of size - sorry! Ours cosy £75 but a friend did it for us and she only charged for the cost of materials, not time taken.

The trouble with this one, Spangler, is that I would want to try one of each of them! It looks sooo awesome.
