Cake topper inspiration

diamondsragirlsbestfriend!, 19 April, 2009 at 09:51 Posted on Planning 0 16

After reading another post thinking I need to get A into G and sort the cake. We are going to order 3 plain ivory tiers from M&S and although I'm not too keen on cake stands think this will be a lot less hassle than stacking. Was keen on having a bride and groom sheep cake topper but H2B not so keen now, so thinking what to have instead. What is everyone else having on top of their cake and what decoration are you having on your cake?

Thanks

Just wanted to say the M and S fruit tiers are fantastic!

I was thinking of getting a silver and diamante S to go on top of our cake and then probably putting some fllowers around it.

    Thanks ladies.

Deliciouswitchchild - glad to hear they taste good. We are gonna have the biggest tier as fruit and the other two will be sponge, try to cater for all tastes.

Hey Teehee I did see Weedancers post and that what got me thinking that I need to get on to the cake soon'ish. We get married end of May. I would love a stacked cake but tbh it just sounds like too much hard work as I have no idea on dowling/stacking etc and remember reading somewhere that the M&S ones can look quite small when stacked? When I say cake topper I do mean anything that can go on top of a cake not just a traditional toppper. May consider flowers, will have to wait till I meet with florist though which is not for another few weeks. Would be interested to see what everyone else is having.

H2B has already taken care of our cake topper - we haven't set a date yet, but at least we know what is going on top of our cake!!

Bless him, at least he's taking an interest 🙂

Alex - I love the lego bride and groom!

We're having a model Morris Minor and Ford Capri on the top of ours. Sounds easy but so far has caused more hassel than anything else.

I LOVE THE LEGO PEOPLE! They're brilliant!

You'll have to have a small cake though, or they'll get lost!

We're going to have a load of little fairy cakes with dolly mixtures on top, and then have a sponge cake on top in the shape of a massive cup cake so we've still got something to cut. We got the idea at a wedding fayre but we're going to commission H2B's brother to do it as he's quite arty like that. (we're going for quite a light-hearted theme - can you tell?!)

I went to a wedding once where the bride and groom made they're own little effigies out of plastercine to use as cake toppers - the bride's was great, but the groom looked a lot like a robot!!

There is some gorgeous stuff out there tho, i would suggest ebay, they can make things to your exact specification and it's not really that expensive.

This is our cake topper. we're having plain tiers i think, just to keep it simple, and clean looking.

Lego bride and groom are brilliant! Some of our friends did this recently but they did get a wee bit lost. I think you'll get the idea that you don't have to have a Bride and Groom.....we had an Empire State Building and a Chrysler Building to symbolise us meeting and getting engaged in NYC (7 years apart!). Ignore the flowers - I was a wee bit disapointed with them!

Our cake topper is my avatar (which i've hopefully uploaded) i sent some rubbish photos and descriptions and she has made a great replica of us for our wedding day that we can keep forever.

Just hope everyone else likes it.

I loved the letters but we decided against it as we would either be M&S (mil2bs favourite shop) or S&M

This was ours - not exactly the "initial" idea, but they can be incorporated somehow if you wanted I'm sure - the model maker is brilliant and will pretty much do anything you fancy. Her name is Susan ...

I don't know what your flower theme is but what about something like these they are very easy to secure and mean you don't have to have an extra topper if you don't want as the flowers sit on top of the cake these can be arranged with the beargrass going in any direction. Obviously can be altered to match your flower theme.

I could make you something to match when I do your Headdress if you want to use the same flowers and crystals.
