Hi All,

Just wondering how much everyone is spending on cakes? Ive been having a nosey on the M&S wedding cake website and they are around £150-£250 for a 3 tier cake.

Are they more or less the same price at other cake shops?? Ive only just started looking and have no idead what all the proper names are ! Any pics of your cakes please x

I'm going to get mine from M&S too I think, I love the white one with the roses down the side. I'm going to look at some shops too I think just to see the difference in price etc, but haven't done so yet.

My little sis is making ours as a gift.

We are currently on holiday in the lake district and found a wonderful cake. I would post the pic I took of it if I could.

the best way I can describe it is: a penguins ice castle cake. It was about £1800 though Smiley sad

If I win the lottery tonight I will get it

Honeybee9 - your cake is stunning!

I'll be making mine myself but it will be quiet a simple design. I haven't done all the calcs yet but I think it will be about £70-80 for all the ingredients and materials - 4 tiers with sugar roses. I would say M&S is probably the cheapest way to do it otherwise. Then you can stack and decorate the tiers yourselves, with ribbon and fresh flowers maybe.

The only think I've heard with M&S is that they are quite shallow cakes so won't create much height unless you use pillars between the tiers.

The quotes we were getting for traditional tiered cakes from bakeries were at least double what M&S costs. We're going for cupcakes with a top tier - 100 mixed flavour cupcakes, top tier, cake stand, delivery and set up for £150 (or £180, depending on which supplier we use!)

My cake is being made by a local cakemaker - she's charging me £200 for a 3 tier cake to feed 110 people

I've seen many M&S cakes and they've all looked brilliant, cost less than a Wedding Cake specialist (as mentioned above) but these often have far more detail in them...

    Hope that helps!

Me and my friend made mine, cost just under £6 for the ingredients. The most expensive thing was the topper.

We obviously weren't going for the professional look (first time i'd ever really done baking), but it was so fun to make.

    ER your cake looks amazing!!!

We tasted M&S cake at the National Wedding show, it was lovely!!!

We are getting ours from a local bakery :-)

It is going to be 3 tiers tall, square. The bottom will be chocolate, the middle sponge and the top chocolate again. Each tier will have a purple ribbon round it.

Holding the tiers up will be glass funnels filled with malteasers, and the top of the cake will have silver wires with malteasers threaded onto them, like an explosion.

It is costing £169 plus £10 to deliver to the venue :-) very reasonable I think.

This is similar to what mine will look like with a bit of extra sparkle. It cost £275 including a seperate fruit cake. The 2 top tiers are dummy ones x
