We had 60 Cup Cakes @ £2 each (£120) and a 6 inch round top for £30 - then stand hire and set up £30 so came in at £180 for 60 people - we cut the top and put it on the evening buffet. Add the cup cake wrappers at £22 and the cake toppers at £25 was just shy of £230.

Have you looked at M&S cakes, they are very well priced and all you need to do is get some icing flowers or decorations and they look fantastic, my friends had it at her wedding and the cake was delicious

I wouldn't get a cake that can feed everyone. Not everyone will have it and so it'll go to waste.

Ours' is a very plain 3 tier cake, (6,8 and 10). We're having 3 different flavour sponges. Its £195.

This is ours. 3 tiers made by a friend of MIL so only cost 200. Noooo idea how many it will feed but I'm hoping there will be lots left so I can eat it all!

This is exactly what we're doing. We're having it decorated in fresh flowers, if the ruddy florist ever gets back to me!

Mine was an M&S cake... (sorry don't have the full photo on my work PC)

We had all three tiers and there was cake left over... was about £92?

They often do a 3 for 2 offer on the individual tiers so you could get it cheaper.

Wow, that is close! I work on Norwich Road but drive through Pinewood to London Road. I actually can't wait to see your report now. We might have some of the same suppliers too. Eeeek. Makes me feel better about not having a date/dress/venue/colour scheme/nothing twin!! Smiley smile

Ours was free- served 80 or so in the evening. If you dont want the traditional sort of cake then you can get them for next to nothing.

My mam made mine. Fed about 140 I think and cost her about £50.

As Mini says, there are ways of saving money.

Deffo. I really cant see the point/attraction for a wedding cake? If people like them then great but personally I couldn't spend £500, on a cake! Its madness. I would much rather more vino on the tables, or better BM shoes, anything like that? Whats the point of a cake anyway? is there a symbolism for them?

I completely agree. I had £500 allocated in my budget for a cake but every time I got a quote I just couldn't bring myself to book it. Then I realised it was because I really didn't see the value. My mam's cake tasted amazing and we put extra money towards more champers and a videographer. Sooo pleased we did.

No idea on the tradition element.

Cutting the cake is the first task that you complete together as man and wife.

Here is a better photo of the M&S cake we had...

I was indifferent about the cake but OH really wanted one so I let him get on with it. Apparently we have an 8inch cutting one and 75 cupcakes for 220 guests. First come, first served it would seem.

Mrs C, can I ask where you got your cake toppers from? I am absolutely barmy about penguins and would love these - though not necessarily for my wedding ?

We're getting the actual sponge free from my work and my mum is icing and decorating it which will cost no more than £50, shes away to get icing, boards etc today actually so I'll know exactly what it cost. We're having a 14" and a 10" we've only got 75 guests and some of it will get cut up for the buffet and some is going to people who couldn't make it ( and plenty for me!!) it's just plain sponge with jam and cream too I don't know what the decoratiOn will be like though as its a surprise Smiley smile

    OMG THAT CAKE IS AWESOME!!!!

Ok so we have had quotes in the region of £500 which i am NOT spending....we found another lovely old cake lady bless her that would do it for £180...she was just a bit forgetful and asked me three times during our conversation at this fayre when my wedding was and how many people i would need it to feed so was just a tad concerned!!!!

I have looked at the M&S ones as well....i think this is more the route we will be going down.... keep flashing!!! xx
