Calligraphy

arnold2b, 25 February, 2011 at 19:21 Posted on Planning 0 12

I have bought my place cards, but want to have nice writing on them. I have tried printing, but my printer won't do that size paper, its too small i think, i can't customise it. I have looked into calligraphy but to get someone else to do it its about £50-60. Anyone got any creative ideas about how i could make the writing look better than just my crappy handwriting? Any cool pens or crafty ways of sticking printed words on? Hope you can help!

This is the card

I used to have a calligraphy book that teaches you how to do different styles. It was really good and with practice I’m sure you could do the cards yourself. They tell you to draw 3 faint lines in pencil onto the cards (one for the bottom line, one for the top of smaller letters, and one for the top of tall letters), write to the lines, then rub the pencil out (once you’re sure the ink is dry!). Something like this would do it http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0399512578/ref=asc_df_03995125782135988?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=0399512578

Thanks, I like the idea of the silver pen, hadnt realised you could do it in silver! Im running out of time 50 days! so really need to get cracking with this, I just thought printing would be such an easy option, and would match the other stationary. I like the idea of foiling - but our budget is really tight now so close to the wedding. A think a trip to Wh smiths or Hobby Craft is in Order. Just dont know how easy it will be! grrr place cards were supposed to be simple!

If you wanted to print the names, you could print then layer onto some coloured card (do you have an accent colour in your scheme?)

You would have to have a play around and see how it works

Lots of ideas to think about now! That clear paper sounds interesting, not heard of that before!

I have tried practicing with similar sized paper but because the paper is not a size that is programmed into the printer, like 3x5 or 4x6 the printer says incorrect paper inserted. supposed to be a good HP one as well!

Went to hobbycraft today and got some metallic calligraphy pens and a a-z book. Have to say i'm not that bad at it! Do have to keep looking at the book though. Glad i did not pay someone £60!

There was a basic "how to" guide on Calligraphy been given away for free in Hobbycraft this weekend - it's a small leaflet.

I can scan you a copy tomorrow if that helps at all?
